Caron Nuit de Noel was created in 1922 by Ernest Daltroff, the creative genius behind the House of Caron. His lover, Felicie Vanpouille, was the inspiration for the scent. She loved all things Christmas Eve, the smells not just a small part of that. Don't expect big smells of spices spices and eggnog and cinnamon out of this. The spices are there, but covered by the soft night before Christmas, woods that put out their scent through a hush of falling snow and a crackling fire, warmed by the oakmoss and floral notes. It is a deeply introspective and meditative scent, but the meditation is on quiet joy, when your life is full and rich with love.

I haven't smelled the vintage formulation, so I can't offer a comparison. I can say that I love the reformulated EDT. To my nose, it is warm roses and amber, with a hint of nuttiness. Sillage is pretty close to the body, but it has great lasting power - about 10 hours on clothes. I definitely agree with the description "instant vintage." All in all, I love this scent and am saving up for a full bottle.

I know that I should try to parfum or a vintage sample, but for now, the EdT is easily available and has my heart.
Many other voices more eloquent that mine have called this "instant vintage" or "the perfect fall and winter fragrance". Others reserve it reverently for Christmas Eve like unwrapping an old and well-loved ornament. I just wear mine whenever I want to smile.
I've already decided to order at least a little sample of the vintage or the pure parfum for my own Christmas Eve treat this year, but in the meantime, I'll treat my EdT with all of the affection and respect it so dearly deserves.
