In perfumery to create the absinthe effect, the essence of wormwood is used for its lush herbal note that smells bittersweet and rich. Perfumers also use fennel, anise or star anise as well. Absinthe and wormwood notes (the narcotic wormwood was a traditional ingredient in absinthe) have sporadically popped up in male fragrances; they are now going more mainstream and being used in feminine fragrances.

When you hear absinthe the first thing that springs to mind is artists knocking back glasses of the spirit, dubbed La fee verte (or the green fairy). It was the downfall of countless artists and writers, especially in the fin de siècle period. Banned in France for 85 years for its supposed hallucinogenic and addictive properties, absinthe was revived in 1995 by the distiller Pascal Rolland under the name "Versinthe".

You will receive a 1/2ml sample (1ml sample vial filled half full) of each of the fragrances in this sampler. You also have the option of choosing a 1ml sampler.

BPAL Dead Leaves and Absinthe Perfume Oil Faded leaves lying on damp soil blended with absinthe.

Serge Lutens Douce Amere EDP – An oriental woody fragrance centered on absinthe (wormwood), balancing perfectly the slightly bitter absinthe with the sweeter notes, slightly gourmand with anise and some chocolate (not in any officially listed note list, I just get it, so I have declared it is in there). It sounds very strange, but it's a highly addictive-smelling fragrance that is comforting and easy to wear.

Cinis Labs Absinthe IX Perfume - Intoxicating absinthe, blended with woods, musks and powdery notes. With notes of star anise, wormwood (artemisia), patchouli dark, palo santo, tolu balsam, licorice and musk.

Le Parfum d'Interdits Absolument Absinthe EDP - Absolument Absinthe is a perfectly legal ecstasy that can become addictive. Cannabis and absinthe blend into a bouquet of delicate flowers, grasses, herbs and green notes that make it a gorgeous skin fragrance. It is a light yet deep, luminous and mesmerizing fragrance that reacts with the wearer's own chemistry. Absolument Absinthe features top notes of absinthe, black Chinese tea, bergamot and cannabis; middle notes of galbanum, lily of the valley, lotus blossom, jasmine, ylang-ylang, nutmeg and cardamom; and base notes of sandalwood and musk.

L'Artisan Natura Fabularis 18 Glacialis Terra EDP - Glacialis Terra 18 conjures up a garden of frosted flowers. On this imaginary journey Daphne Bugey reverts to an old-fashioned apothecary bottle with vetiver roots infused in an absinthe-laced liqueur as inspiration. It is an aromatic green fragrance featuring notes of vetiver, absinthe, floral notes and green notes.

Alkemia Perfumes Absinthe and Laudanum in the Afternoon Extrait - An intoxication of galbanum, laudanum accord, tonka bean, vetivert root and narcotic wormwood swooning into an euphoric delirium of opium poppy, poet's jasmine and French lavender.

Avon Christian Lacroix Absynthe EDP - From 2009, this sexy fragrance features top notes of wormwood, anise and freesia; middle notes of saffron, narcissus, artemisia and orchid; and base notes of woodsy notes, myrhh, ebony wood and amber.
