From Elle Magazine article This is What Speed Smells Like: "Burnt rubber is the smell of the racetrack. The smell of the nitro that burns out of header pipes at over 300 mph, the burning smell of the tires when they strike the asphalt. The smell reminds me of my childhood at the racetrack and the scent that floated across the campgrounds and through the pit areas of burning nitro. It reminds me of when I used to sit in the stands with my sisters to watch our dad race, and of the team dynamic in the pit that we had. It reminds me of the smell of a win after a long, hard-fought day and the winner's circle celebration with your team. That smell you can sense from a mile away when the race cars are up on the jack stands in the pit for a warm-up with the motor fired up and the fuel turned on, and that yellow smoke that fills the air that burns everyone's eyes across the pit area. The scent reminds me of all the hard-working crew guys on our team after a long day working to rebuild the motor between every round, and the smell that stains our fire suits after a race at over 300 mph. It starts with our burnout on the racetrack, warming up our tires, backing the car up through the smoke-filled air and the hit of the throttle when we launch off the starting as the fuel gets burned through our motor and out our header pipes. This smell fills the driver's cockpit when we drive from 0 to 1,000 feet in just four seconds, and it continues to build stronger as the car gets darker inside and filled with clutch dust. But as a kid, the first time I smelled this was at the racetrack on my dad's race-worn fire suit."

Wicked Good Race Fuel Perfume Oil - The combined scent of high octane gasoline, burnt rubber and motor oil. 

Lisa Kirk Revolution Perfume - This fragrance is based on the memories of tear gas, blood, urine, smoke, burned rubber and body odor. A very edgy fragrance but completely wearable. It is an explosion of civet, underlined by spicy salty notes and metallic nuances, resting on a cool leather base rounded off by smoky accents. This is achieved with notes of birch tar, ambergris, leather, musk, vetiver, woods and civet. 

Santa Maria Novella Nostalgia EDC - Santa Maria Novella’s intent with this fragrance was to suggest the odors associated with Millemiglia race cars. It is the smell of tires worn out by acceleration and sudden braking blended with hints of gasoline and leather. Nostalgia features top notes of rubber, sweetgum resin and bergamot; middle notes of patchouli and Virginia cedarwood; and base notes of tobacco leaves and vanilla. 

Bvlgari Black - Black is unique and unforgettable. Composed by Annick Menardo in 1998, Black did not use the olfactive pyramid. The tea that fairly puffs with black smoke on the open carries rubber, hot car tires on a summer Kansas highway and leaking oil on the engine with it. But it's not just that, it evens out to something completely its own. 

Comme des Garcons Gosha EDT - Gosha Rubchinskiy, photographer, artist and chronicler of Russian youth street culture worked with Comme des Garcons on this urban scent. The concept for the fragrance is skateboarding on a summer day where the wheels are burning on the hot concrete sidewalk and the smells of rubber and tar collide to create a scent of youth and freedom. It features top notes of angelica and buchu; middle notes of tangerine and chamomile; and base notes of styrax, vetiver and patchouli. 

Perfumology Clutch Parfum - Exhilaration and gratification make up the perfect drive. Leather seats, a heavy foot, the exhaust, a wake of fallen leaves, cool air and hot tires. A perfume that represents the gratifying sensation of a connecting to the road. Crisp air outside and warm inside, Clutch opens with peppery elemi and smoke, revving high and taking off with smoking tires. You connect with the car and to the road itself, your heart pumping, filled with adrenaline. Ginger is the engine driving Clutch, the part that started the project after perfumer Justin Frederico found the essential oil. This particular ginger has an exhilarating spice note deep in its earthy root, red cedar and oak balancing the heart. Shifting gears to the base, luxurious tanned leather keeps you comfortable and confident with vanilla and musk. Perfumer Justin Frederico created Clutch for Perfumology under the creative direction of Nir Guy. A smoky, leather and wood scent, Clutch is a warm fragrance for people interested in trying a unique, independent perfume. 

Sunoco Burnt Rubbér Cologne - Burnt Rubbér is the scent of gasoline, oil and burnt rubber that will make every day smell like a day at the track. This fragrance was created in 2015 and was available exclusively through a Sunoco fan contest that required nothing more than a social media account to win. You could not purchase it. Only 1,000 bottles were created and it was never made again. Pronounced "Burnt Rub-air" (love how they made it seem French), the fragrance is a little sweet, a lot burnt, and with one whiff you are at the track. Sunoco, the official fuel of Nascar, IndyCar, and the National Hot Rod Association, created a fragrance that captures the essence of racing and it will make your life go vroom! A number of editors and influencers were sent promotional packages and they posted about it on blogs and social media. Dealers and distributors were also sent the product, with invitations to attend local races, meet the drivers and the Sunoco team. Once the TV spots and social posts debuted, captivated fans wanted to know how they could get their hands on a bottle. But rather than make the fragrance available to buy, Sunoco's premise was that – like a checkered flag in racing – Burnt Rubber could not be bought, only won. This created scarcity and exclusivity and it is still a very tricky fragrance to find today.
