By Kilian Woman in Gold - A top note of bergamot; middle notes of rose and vanilla absolute; and base notes of akigalawood and patchouli. It is a chypre floral fragrance.
Kilian Hennessy launched by Kilian in 2007. Yup, that Cognac Hennessy, grandson to the founder of Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton Group, he followed his interest in scent, writing his thesis on the semantics of odors. After spending time with leading perfumers, he launched By Kilian with the Collection L'oeuvre Noire (Black Masterpiece) series. There are now 10 fragrances in that series. The over-the-top marketing copy drew a lot of criticism in the early part of his launch, but the gorgeous packaging - black lacquer boxes and black bottles - started to win us over, as did the artistry of the fragrances.
Fragrantica: "...that this scent is sultry, but not attention seeking. The woman in gold knows she's beautiful, and doesn't need to demand attention from others - but gets it anyway. The scent makes me feel quietly confident."
Fragrantica: "It’s very inoffensive, you could wear it to the office 100% (but it is also suitable for date night too. It’s a bit sultry but not attention seeking.) It has a lot of vanilla, bergamot and tonka especially on the dry down."
