Kilian (By Kilian)
By Kilian Moonlight in Heaven is a 2016 release and was created by Calice Becker. The fragrance features notes of lemon, grapefruit, pink pepper, coconut, milky rice, mango, tonka bean and vetiver. As founder Kilian Hennessy explains, the fragrance is inspired by his travels in Thailand and a particular photograph by Patrick Demarchelier. "It's a profile of a woman in the dark with the moon behind her, so you just see just her profile in the sea. I love it because you can see it's an exotic destination and because it’s taken at night it's very sensual. And in Thailand there is a dessert that I love - sticky rice with mango and coconut - and I thought it would be fantastic if it could be used as the beginning of a new perfume."
Kilian Hennessy launched By Kilian in 2007. Yup, the Cognac Hennessy, grandson to the founder of Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton Group, he followed his interest in scent, writing his thesis on the semantics of odors. After spending time with leading perfumers, he launched By Kilian with the Collection L'oeuvre Noire (Black Masterpiece) series. There are now 10 fragrances in that series. The over-the-top marketing copy drew a lot of criticism in the early part of his launch, but the gorgeous packaging - black lacquer boxes and black bottles - started to win us over, as did the artistry of the fragrances.
Influenster - "Moonlight in heaven is a scent that was modeled after his honeymoon trip to Thailand. It smells like the coconut milk from sticky rice or a curry but it’s sweet. There’s a sweet note to it that’s not too overbearing but evens out with the other notes in this fragrance. I use this day or night bc there’s a slight heaviness to it but more of a lighter scent personally for me."
