Description

Dior Grand Bal is part of the Florals Collection. Worshiped as the queens of flowers, these blooms reign majestically over these fragrances. Sweet jasmine, sensual rose and seductive tuberose procure instant pleasure. Fragrances in this collection include Grand Bal, La Colle Noire, Gris Dior, Jasmin des Anges and New Look 1947.

It was created by perfumer Francois Demachy. Grand Bal is an echo of Christian Dior’s great ball gowns, whose full skirts and beauty evoked the petals of a flower in full bloom,” says François Demachy.

Grand Bal is a fresh, dewy jasmine that also has notes of bergamot, Tunisian orange blossom, ylang ylang, New Caledonia sandalwood and musk. It is an eau de parfum, edp.

Dior’s luxury fragrance line La Collection Privée has been reimagined for 2018, offering a new way for you to be dressed in Dior. Rebranded as Maison Christian Dior, it goes beyond a collection of fragrances to become a somewhat ritualistic concept; that of perfuming and embellishing spaces and moments in your life. “When I create perfumes I flout technical constraints, schedules, fashions and trends,” Demachy explains of his artistic process. The fragrances in this collection are formed in families of Orientals, Florals, Sensuals, Light Florals and Fruity Florals, non-specific to gender but without being labelled ‘unisex’.

Reviews of Dior Grand Bal

From Olfactoria's Travels - "Grand Bal is not the world’s most innovative, outrageous or unique fragrance, but as I have learned over time, sometimes a good, classic, reliable and well-made perfume does the trick for me a lot better than the equivalent of a pink elephant wearing glasses."

From Persolaise - "Grand Bal doesn’t break new ground in any way whatsoever. But I suspect Demachy wasn’t trying to be innovative here. Instead, he’s shown that sometimes the best recipes are the old ones, as long as they’re put together using high-quality materials and given a few modern embellishments. With elegant sensuality, Grand Bal takes its place next to À La Nuit, Beyond Paradise and Dior’s own J’Adore L’Absolu as one of the most instantly charming modern jasmines on the market. If someone had sent Anna a bottle of this stuff, perhaps things between her and Karenin might have worked out differently…"

From Perfume Posse - " It  lays on light enough that you can wear it with abandon, slightly dewy, but with enough jasmine that you won’t think, ew, jasminelite, just no.  It’s not so heavy that you can only wear it at night, I wear it all day.  And as the summer heats up, that jasmine should blossom even more beautifully.  I’ve always wanted a Christian Dior ball gown, even though I have nowhere to wear it. I swear, I’d just wear it around the house on a Monday.  This modern one Cate Blanchette wore feels like Grand Bal – an updated take on a classic piece of Femininity that the Dior  ball gown represents."

    Classic, but linear

This is a classic, smooth jasmine perfume. I can very well picure wearing it with a ball gown. The perfume stays rather the same through to the drydown, so no surprises here. It is a beautiful perfume, but do try other jasmine perfumes too before you decide on a full bottle of this.

    Old school good jasmine

I like it. It's a classical style jasmine. A well blended, beautiful scent, but there is nothing extraordinary about it. There are many more jasmine fragrances out there have more character than this one. Which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5.
