Gorilla Perfume at Lush was formed to showcase the perfumes of Mark and Simon Constantine. The backstory on Rentless involves a man, Tachowa Covington (Rollerball) who met a photographer (Hal Samples) who was on holiday in California. Tachowa said upon meeting Hal - "I had a dream about you. You're going to make a movie about me." Tachowa took Hal to his home which was an abandoned water tank. Inside every single item had been found or created by Rollerball to make the tank into his home. Hal decided that he had to make Tachowa's dream a reality and started on the process. In 2011, renowned graffiti artist Banksy tagged the water tank and wrote "this looks a bit like an elephant". 60 days prior to this, Tachowa had been served an eviction notice but Bansky's tagging drew the public eye towards Tachowa and his Tank Battle (another Gorilla fragrance). However in the end, Tachowa was forced to leave his home.
Tachowa's story was turned into a play at the Edinburgh Fringe and he made the trip to Scotland to see it. At a 2013 Gorilla Perfumes pop-up in Edinburgh, Tachowa acted out his own character in front of Lush employees. Simon Constantine became acquainted with Tachowa and visited him in L.A. in 2015 staying at Tachowa's apartment. There was one thing that Tachowa said during that stay that really stood out to Simon: “I've never been a homeless man. I’ve only ever been a rentless man.” Tachowa is an inspiration to show that no matter who we are, or what situation we’ve been dealt with, we can all make something from nothing.
Rentless is an empowering fragrance with notes of patchouli oil, labdanum resinoid, tonka absolute and grapefruit. It is a vegan and cruelty-free eau de parfum, edp.
