Description

Guerlain Encens Mythique d'Orient is part of the Les Deserts d'Orient Collection launched by Guerlain in 2012.  Taking inspiration from incense, they then pasted over all the great Guerlain pieces of perfumery.   Created by Thierry Wasser, it has notes of aldehyde, neroli, moss, saffron, Perisan rose, ambergris and musk. This is an eau de parfum, edp.

Reviews of   Guerlain Encens Mythique d'Orient

From Bois de Jasmin   - "Another surprising thing about Encens Mythique d’Orient is its incense note. A delicate swirl appears here and there, among rose petals and sandalwood shavings, but it’s a fresh, sparkling accent that smells more like crushed peppercorns than dark church incense. When the perfume settles into its buttery animalic drydown, the incense merely lights up the heavy layers."

From Kafkaesque   - "Encens Mythique d’Orient (hereinafter just “Encens Mythique” or “Encens”) is centered on a dark, dusty rose. It is probably the same sort of unusual Persian damask rose which Thierry Wasser used in Rose Nacrée, sourced directly from Iran, but it is not the sole driving force in the fragrance. Aldehydes are just as significant, as is frankincense."

From Perfume Posse - "Separate from its beauty, the first thing I find remarkable about Encens Mythique is that I don’t experience it as a typical development of top notes fading into heart and base notes. Instead, it emerges from the bottle and blooms, polished and smooth and complete and radiant, one beautiful glowing orb of smell. It’s mesmerizing. I can pick out the individual notes if I really work at it – particularly the aldehydes, the saffron, the incense, even (yes) the rose, but it doesn’t wear like that."

The Non-Blonde - "Encens Mythique d'Orient on my skin is mostly an incense/rose perfume. The strong shot of aldehydes in the opening is the first surprise, as does the strong boozy element (more refined than in Guerlain's Spiritueuse Double Vanille, but still strong) . There's spice and sweetness, honey and saffron, wonderful richness and a powdery rose.

There's just something about it. Of all my samples I keep coming back to this!
