Guerlain Shalimar Millésime Tonka was launched in 2022. Created by Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk, this limited edition was inspired by the original and leaned heavily on the tonka bean. It has notes of bitter almond, bergamot, iris, jasmine sambac, rose, tonka bean and vanilla. This is the edp, eau de parfum.
Shalimar means Temple of Love in Sanskrit.
From the brand - "The Shalimar legend has inspired an exceptional new accord, Eau de Parfum Millésime Tonka, composed as a loving tribute to tonka bean. Deliciously addictive, it exalts the soul of Shalimar, revealing its most voluptuous facets with amber accents, enfolding it in a subtly irresistible roundness. It majestically complements Madagascan vanilla, enhanced in the form of a unique tincture, the fruit of time-honoured know-how. In the sumptuous trail of Shalimar, Guerlain invites us to a truly exceptional experience. Magnified by the expertise of Guerlain perfumers, tonka bean raises this Millésime to the rank of a perfumery grand cru."
Fragrantica - "The tonka here is as good as in Tonka Impériale. It's amazing how you immediately recognize Shalimar, even being so different. The notes are similar but twisted. The tonka bean with the magical Guerlinade is obsessing. Perfect autumn scent. And this is so sophisticated and elegant."
Fragrantica - "Wow! I do not like Shalimar and flankers but love this! Who knew! This is quite a revelation. I know I should never say this but… ;It’s like Shalimar and Tonka Imperiale had a baby!'"
Fragrantica - "Very majestic and dark. Innocente vanilla is mature here. It is shalimar, no doubt, but this is contralto singing in the cathedral. I love the impressive omnipotence and darkness of it."
Fragrantica - "The Shalimar DNA is certainly intact here, and as the name suggests, the tonka bean note is placed centre stage. It is a slightly gourmand variation thanks to the soft almond note, and is well-blended throughout. Warm and cosy, it is the equivalent to swaddling oneself in a cashmere jumper."
Fragrantica - " was wondering how close and how this new variant could differentiate from the original, and I am impressed. It is still Shalimar but with a new step on something very sexy and gourmand. I get a soft almond and caramel note in it and I love it. Well done. It is a Ding dong!"
