We have been fortunate enough to obtain a bottle of Mane Yu (Chinese for rain). There were only 500 bottles of this created in 2007. Yu is blended from exceptional natural essences from some of the remotest parts of the world and is an exclusive and limited edition perfume. This listing is for a .25ml (a 1ml vial filled one-quarter full). You may also choose a larger size below.
Yu was created by Cecile Krakower from Mane. It is blended from high quality natural ingredients obtained immediately at the spot with the Jungle Essence method (a portable pressurized canister and solvent that extracts the essences of plants in the field). The scent is inspired by nature - the rain in the south of France on a warm July day.
Yu is created from the rarest, most beautiful flowers on earth. As this precious perfume touches your skin, each floral aroma blooms into life, recreating the very spirit of nature's beauty. Mane uses the most unique natural ingredients from the rich and abundant diversity of South America's rainforests to the fertile islands of the Indian Ocean. In these remote regions they have found not only the rarest of flora but also the most precious plant wisdom kept alive by generations of indigenous people. By working with these communities they have learned how to harvest plants at the most beneficial times - whether in the dead of night or in accordance with the phases of the moon. In return they have brought elements of their technology to them ensuring a sustainable means of making a living and offering some measure of protection for the habitats in which these rare plants and flowers flourish. Rosewood leaves essential oil and vetiver roots from Marajo Island near Belem, Brazil, are two such ecologically-sustainable ingredients that are found in Yu.
At the heart of Yu is a trilogy of intoxicating floral ingredients: champaca, whose aromatic orange blooms have been used for centuries to create an enigmatic atmosphere in the temples of Indonesia; soft, sweet jasmine absolute from India, whose white-petaled flowers wait until the dead of night to release their full fragrance; and genet absolute (broom), whose fresh scent (distinct hay notes) evokes the rolling hillsides of southern Italy. This sublime bouquet is accented with citrusy bursts of Sicilian bergamot, tangerine from Florida, orange flower absolute and Asian mandarin leaf Jungle Essence and complemented by a floral medley of African freesia Jungle Essence and Madagascan ylang-ylang flower. Depth and mystery is bestowed by a blend of rosewood and vetiver from Brazil, allied with Mysore sandalwood and creamy bourbon vanilla absolute that adds the final sensual signature.
The result in an exquisite and beautiful scent; a faithful representation of natural perfection and a rare and precious thing.
The natural essences in Yu were hand-harvested according to the cycles of nature, when each flower was at its fullest and most potent. But to preserve that singular moment of freshness takes state-of-the-art technology. Mane's portable extraction equipment, Jungle Essence, enables them to capture the vital aromatic qualities of some of the world's most inaccessible plants, and maintain their integrity up to and during extraction.
I did have the opportunity to see the Jungle Essence extraction in person while at their facility in Italy and it is incredibly fascinating. I was able to watch them extract the essence from a piece of popcorn and the resulting scent was nothing short of amazing!! The size of the equipment allows them to travel anywhere to obtain the freshest of ingredients.
Chandler Burr is quoted as saying: "Yu is actually very interesting, aesthetically gorgeous. You can smell the money in it."
I have never smelled any other fragrance with the same properties as this. To say that it is fresh smelling is an understatement. This is one that has to be tried to understand the full effect of the scent and the process behind it.
