These fragrances will transport you to old libraries. So many scents swirling around - first of all the old books (a combination of grassy notes with a tang of acids and a hint of vanilla over an underlying mustiness), new books (ink, paper, leather, glue), papers, leather, binding glue, wood shelving, paneling, flooring, tables, chairs, etc. Some words used to describe old libraries are: woody, smoky, earthy, musty, dusty, sweet and vanillic.

She closed the book and put her cheek against it. There was still an odor of a library on it, of dust, leather, binding glue, and old paper, one book carrying the smell of hundreds. - Author: Shannon Hale

There is something about libraries, old libraries, that makes them seem almost sacred. There's a smell of paper and must and binding stuff. It's like all the books are fighting against decay, against turning into dust, and at the same time fighting for attention. - Author: Carrie Jones

You will receive a 1/2ml sample (1ml sample vial filled half full) of each of the fragrances in this sampler. You also have the option of choosing a 1ml sampler.

  1. MMM Replica Whispers in the Library EDT - Imagine the slowing down of time, the soft rustle of turning pages and the mutter of discreet whispers. Now imagine a library with waxed antique woodwork. Whispers in the Library is inspired by the scent of waxed wood and paper, the combination of pepper notes blended with notes of cedar and vanilla recreates the atmosphere of an ancestral library.
  2. Fueguia 1833 Biblioteca de Babel EDP - Cedar shelves, heavy leather book bindings, vellum leaves, the smell of ink. The complex environment of an old book is brought to life. Named after a short story by Jorge Luis Borges, about an enormous library of interlocking rooms, housing a vast collection of books – this fragrance is about the intoxicating scent of an old library where the books have been kept impeccably dry. It is a combination of warm woods, leather bindings, and a hint of ink. The strongest element here is absolutely the wood – warm, reassuring cedar and a South American wood called cabreuva, which complements the cedar. This is deep, burnished and luxurious. The first impression is waxy and surprisingly sweet. There is a rich tuberose-like note, like a flower pressed between the pages, and a dusting of cinnamon. Then we get the soft, worn leather of book bindings, the dry spiciness of old vellum and a trace of tobacco. This is like the warm, comforting embrace of a favorite armchair, in a book-lined room. An instant favorite – we would love to spend a long time in this library. With notes of cedar, cabreuva (woody note) and cinnamon.
  3. Beacon Mercantile No. 28 The Library EDP - Fingers trace lines in an ancient atlas. Dust motes dance in slanting sunlight through arched windows. Notes of printer's ink and paper mingle with warm wood. With a top note of papyrus; middle notes of golden oak, fig and violet; and base notes of leather and plum.
