Ormonde Jayne Orris Noir was launched in 2006, created by the line's owner and founder, Linda Pilkington. Ormonde Jayne Orris Noir is an original take on iris - not so much iris, but lots of swirling darkness with davana, spices, incense. It may not be dark enough, it may not be iris enough, but what it definitely has enough of is beauty. A delight to wear; just stunning sillage, elegant and beautiful.
From Perfume Posse - "either metallic nor powdery, the iris hangs above the languid woody base like the moon over a lake at nightfall. I am beginning to believe that it may, in fact, be possible to have too many iris fragrances. But this is not one of the ones we can live without."
From Bois de Jasmin - "They frame the lemony green top notes and foil the sheer floral heart. The echoes of sweet warmth of allspice can be noticed in the rich woody base. The chilly breath of iris is quite a subtle accent in this vivid arrangement, yet it lends a certain restraint. Incense, smooth and smoky, envelops the composition in its translucent dark veil."
From Basenotes - "Orris Noir is a fantastic advertisement for the Ormonde Jayne style of building a fragrance, in that it is composed of many different layers, all of them as light as air, which when laid one on top of another become a dense, velvety mass."
From Olfactoria's Travels - "It is an understated and elegant fragrance, the inclusion if incense, most apparent in the late drydown, makes it a winner for me. It is one of those fragrances that are perfectly fine and nice, but somewhat underwhelming in the beginning. But if you give them a chance they grow on you, and with every passing hour you like what you smell even more."
