RETRO - Menley & James Love's Fresh Lemon Cologne
Year Introduced: 1970 - Feminine
Love Cosmetics was introduced by Menley & James on March 1, 1969. By the summer of 1970, the company was marketing and promoting Fresh Lemon bath products and Soft Eyes items to beautify the eyes. Love Cosmetics is credited with introducing the lemon craze.
This is the original Menley & James version of Love's Fresh Lemon Cologne. This was the very first issue of the fragrance and the one that I think has the strongest and best lemon fragrance. Menley & James then sold the Love's Cosmetics line to Chattem in 1980 who then sold it to MEM in 1985. At some point, still in the 1980s, Dana Perfumes purchased the Love's Cosmetics line but then Dana was acquired by Benckiser still in the 1980s. A few of the more popular Dana perfumes were still produced but the Benckiser group finally sold what was left of Dana to Renaissance Cosmetics in 1995. They went bankrupt in 1999 and were purchased by New Dana Perfumes who later changed their name to Dana Classics. (Got that all??)
Love's Fresh Lemon is a sweet, fresh lemon scent, similar to lemon meringue pie. It was popular in a time when lemon fragrances were all the rage. There was Skinny Dip Lemon, Goya Aqua Citric, Jean Nate, Max Factor Citrus Musk, Wrisley Lemon Twist, Max Factor Lemon Cologne and Revlon Wild Lemon.
Love's Fresh Lemon has been discontinued.
We are decanting from an original bottle of the cologne version of this fragrance.
