Purple Earthy Flowers
Violets out-of-doors. One of my favorites.
Serge Lutens Bois de Violette was created as one of the offspring of Feminite du Bois, the mother of Bois de Violette, Bois et Musc, Bois Oriental and Bois et Fruits. This is the aspect that was heavily violet surrounded by cedar wood. We tend to put cedar as a masculine note and violet is normally feminine. One is resinous and one modest and soft. The two notes together tend to blur those distinctions. Serge Lutens Bois de Violette is one of the most highly regarded violet scents available.
The Hundred Classics Pick (Luca Turin & Tania Sanchez)
from perfumeposse - " My first Serge Lutens perfume, and I clung to it so hard, and now I can’t remember the last time I wore it. Well, fixed that! “Woody violet wrapped in candy” is how I described it in the comprehensive violet post. Cedarwood, violet leaf, candied plum, peach, orange blossom, rose, violet, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, musk, vanilla, honey. This perfume was my first realization that dainty violet wasn’t that dainty."
from Kafkaesque - "It’s a very different matter, wouldn’t you say? In the vial, Bois de Violette smells of violets, its green leaves, and something dewy. On the skin, however, the perfume opens as a rich, complex bouquet of dried fruit, violets, violet powder, wet violet petals, the green of the leaves, the wet, damp earth surrounding it, and violet syrup. In the background, there are subtle flickers of orange blossom, peach, sweet tea rose, musk, cinnamon, and a drizzle of honey. The perfume feels simultaneously light, dark, airy, sheer, and thick– all at once. Yet, its projection is so subtle, delicate and light that I actually had to double my usual dose (to about 4.5 large, dabbed smears) to get all the nuances."

I feel happy when I wear this! Complex, layered, interesting.

Well composed and I'm sure would please many. I personally didn't like the powdery dry down at all. Too old lady for my taste.
Whole violets with a touch (and i mean a touch) of cedar. I'd like to smell more cedar to temper the sweetness a bit. I wore it to work and while walking in the dreary cold the violets cheered me up and inspired me to take a detour to buy Chowder's violet scented mints so i could have matching breath (exactly what this scent reminds me of). Low sillage and low/mod longevity on me however. I'd consider a larger sample size but probably not a full bottle.
On me, the opening is very sweet- like candy. Smells just like pixie sticks. The dry-down was faint and powdery. I did not find the cedar. The scent disappeared very quickly.
The best option for those who cry to Feminite du Bois by Shiseido. It is woody, a beautiful cedar, and violet is fresh violet from leaves in earth to the flower, beautiful composition.
