Description

Serge Lutens Borneo 1834 is completely unique in the way it interweaves the cobwebby dusty patchouli notes with chocolate. An oriental woody fragrance that is singularly unique in the world as far as notes and how they are balanced against each other. This is in the Oriental Woody fragrance group.

Reviews of Serge Lutens Borneo 1834 from noses that may or may not sniff as your nose does.

from scentbound - "Borneo 1834 is the only fragrance I’ve come across satisfies my craving for old-worldly mysticism. I doubt this is an accident considering the backstory of the fragrance.  Borneo 1834 starts with a realistic cocoa accord freshened up by white florals. The cocoa here has the aroma of a high quality cocoa powder that almost makes my mouth water. There is no sweetness here, just tangible powderiness."

from perfumeniche - "I think Borneo 1834 is remarkable – dry, dark, green, sweet, warm, smoky. By contrasting unmatched notes such as chocolate with green patchouli leaves, camphor with flowers, spices and woods, the undertones in each of the notes are highlighted: the coffee and nuttiness in the cocoa, the licorice in the camphor, the smoke in the mahogany and ebony woods. The end result is a fragrance which is incredibly sensual and powerful, which smells like it’s come from another time and far-distant place, blessed by holy men chanting in temples. From Borneo in 1834, I guess."

Fragrantica - "Grounded by dry, powdery cacao and labdanum this deep, boozy patchouli is earthy rather than ethereal.  Both austere - in the sense of unforgiving - and intoxicatingly rich.  It has no floral or ambery softness and is all the better for it, vibrating on its own spell-binding wavelength.  Dry cardamon and greeness from the galbanum round off the composition.  A world-beating best-in-class and my favourite patchouli.  Magical."
