Tom Ford Jardin Noir (night garden) series for his Private Blend Collection released in the fall 2012.  He told the New York Times, when asked about this new series, "'When you showcase their [the flower's] darker and less innocent aspects, flowers can become so thrilling and beautiful, they could almost ruin you. That was the sensation I was after."

Tom, you never fail to "bring the quote" and you are never boring, even though you keep insisting on having "litters of perfume" instead of the usual 1-2 new releases a year.  Originally named "Twisted Florals," they changed it to Jardin Noir.  What's French for twisted floral?  Torsadee floral accoring to my Google translator (might mean French Twist instead?  My French sucks), which really doesn't sound as cool as Jardin Noir. Good call, Tom! But I like twisted floral better as a concept.

You will get a 1/2 ml sample (1 ml filled half full) of each of the following four scents in this new series:

  • Cafè Rose (coffee rose) - notes of rose, saffron, pepper, coffee
  • Lys Fume (spiced, smoky, animalic lily. It's Tom Ford, just go with it) - notes of mandarin, pink peppercorn, nutmeg, turmeric, white lily and vanilla
  • Jonquille de Nuit ( night jonquil, otherwise known as narcissus) - notes are wild alpine cyclamen, acacia and angelica seeds
  • Ombre de Hyacinth ("Hyacinth's Shadow" or a more earthy taken on this green springy flower) - notes are galbanum, violet leaf, magnolia leaf, musky base

  1. Ombre de Hyacinth 4 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Oct 2012

Among the four samples I liked Ombre de Hyacinth best.

The flowery opening with its greenness makes you feel as if you stood in a garden at sunrise.

Unfortunately, the starting notes are evaporating fast. But the drydown, which is definitely soapy, is wonderful on me and lasts a long time.

Scents in the vein of Café Rose can be found at Rosine at a less expenisve price and in at least the same quality.

Lys Fumé is a nice incense scent, and Jonquille de Nuit has a wonderful opening. The drydown does, alas, not work on me.

Please take into account that these opinions are highly subjective.
