Caron Nuit de Noel was created in 1922 by Ernest Daltroff, the creative genius behind the House of Caron. His lover, Felicie Vanpouille, was the inspiration for the scent. She loved all things Christmas Eve. Don't expect big smells of spices spices and eggnog and cinnamon out of this. The spices are there, but covered by the soft night before Christmas, woods that put out their scent through a hush of falling snow and a crackling fire, warmed by the oakmoss and floral notes. It is a deeply introspective and meditative scent, but the meditation is on quiet joy, when your life is full and rich with love.
This is the vintage pure parfum and it is the most true to the original scent, though the current version has lost little in reformulation.
From Perfume Posse - "There was the smell of chocolate and cherries and peanuts, perfume from Nadine, the winter night, baked goods in the house, cigarette smoke from Dick. Weaved through all of it was joy and love, however imperfect it was on any other day. Does Caron Nuit de Noel smell like that? Not really, but it captures the smell of contentment. A melange of smells that somehow blend together into what just feels like joy. Notes of rose, jasmine, ylang ylang, oakmoss, sandalwood and vetiver seem to become more than what they are, equal parts of earth and floral beauty, contrasted against a dark base that pins it solidly to the ground in reality."
From Bois de Jasmin - "Nuit de Noël is one of my favorite Caron scents because of its interesting composition and exquisite dry down. Overall, Nuit de Noël is a soft wood-based scent with a floral heart. The top notes are very classical rose, jasmine and ylang ylang–dry floral notes rather than a creamy modern composition. The most interesting changes take place after the fragrance dries down slightly. Suddenly the floral blend is dissipated by the wetness of oakmoss. Then the spicy notes become apparent, albeit remaining very soft and intertwining with sandalwood and vetiver. "
From Perfume Smellin' Things - "Nuit de Noel is a beautiful fragrance , primeval and warm like the embers of a Yule log. Its predominant qualities are floral, but I am constantly intrigued by the Saxon Moss and the smokiness of the sandalwood mixed with the jasmine and ylang ylang accords."
