Description

Zoologist Rhinoceros is a thundering, statement perfume created by Paul Kiler from the groundbreaking and innovative perfume makers based in Canada. They use no animal products in their perfume.  Rhinoceros has notes of rum, bergamot, lavender, elemi, sage, armoise, conifer needles, pinewood, tobacco, immortelle, geranium, agarwood, Chinese cedarwood, vetiver, sandalwood, amber, smoke, leather* and musks* (*denotes a synthetic note).  This is the 2020 version of the fragrance.

Rhinoceros is described:  "Under the searing gaze of an unrelenting sun, the ornery rhinoceros surveys his dusty territory. A tough, battered hide is his armour against the erosive onslaught of sand, whipped into a frenzy by a hot, merciless wind, as he stands strong, defending his domain... charges forward with a heady note of sweet rum. Like a wild drunken beast, it cavorts until it comes to settle into a slow, rhythmic yet relentless beat - the rugged, raw aroma of leather. Frolicking around the edges is a rich blend of smooth tobacco, smoky vetiver, dried herbs, strong pine and bitter agar. Rhinoceros is a complex, intimidating and masculine scent that makes a bold, unapologetic statement. Go forth and explore your world. Don’t ask permission."

Rhinoceros is an extrait de parfum.

Zoologist Rhinoceros Reviews

From Basenotes - "Spray this and as your nostrils are taking it in, out of the swirling vapours you will be deafened by the charge of a rhino coming right at you up close and personal leaving no detail of his hygiene to your imagination. You yell in fright sitting up in bed waking from your horrible dream... but then was it a dream you muse as you sit sniffing what is probably the best dry leather smell I have experienced. Strong. This is doing exactly what it set out to do. Maybe you are a game hunter and its the smell of the rhino hide of the beast that charged you and the tanning process is not over yet either."

From Reddit - "I kind of want to bite my arm now. Something about the bitterness of it taps the back of my throat and makes my mouth water. It doesn’t even necessarily smell like it would taste good. I just want to taste it. The rum at the beginning was sharp and obvious, and it left quickly, which is good because I wasn’t trying to smell like an alcoholic, though it was interesting while it was there. Now it smells like new leather, not broken in yet. It’s definitely a hot, shimmering smell, but I can’t identify any of the flowers or the sweet sandalwood so much as they add the shimmering dimension, I think. It makes me feel the way oppressing heat does. I still want to eat my arm."

Fragrantica - "it opened like an slightly animalic leathery tobacco pipe with a hint of pepper, evolves into a cigar box, and ends smelling like a tobacco leaf. These last two stages are pretty much photorealistic, if this makes sense. Great scent if you're looking for a tobacco-heavy scent."

Fragrantica - "Tobacco. Rich, rich tobacco, with a hint of leather and coffee. The difference in this compared to the last version is night and day, this one is like smelling the inside of an old and heavily used tobacco pipe (in all the best ways) whereas the last one was very boozy. I don’t get much booze from it this time, but tobacco is definitely front and center almost the whole way through. The performance on this is top notch and I’d where this anytime and anywhere. It’s a really wonderful and unique take and I’m certainly satisfied with how it turned out."

    Fantabulous

big rum note with tobacco and pine that freshens it a little bit, along with something astringent/medicinal right at the start. Moves into lavender and incense, warm leather. I get a lot of geranium, with leather, incense, and resin-y pine. Ends a nice leather/amber, soft and sweet, with a hint of floral too. Smells like an old man executive with fancy leather furniture and a pipe. His wife put some flowers on the table, and he's drinking neat rum with lunch. I'm interested to try the new version of this.
