Description

Zoologist Camel was created by Christian Carbonnel and released in 2017. It opens with a medicinal animalic smell, followed by rich sweetened florals. Not syrupy, just a little candied.  All laid over a rich incense-vanilla base. mells like Arabic sensuality, it's intoxicating. Like all Zoologist fragrances, it does a fine job invoking the image of the animal it is modeled after: hot and dry, steady and reliable.   I rode a camel once in the Sahara, and it is like this - a little overhwhelming at first with that sweaty animal smell, but it is sweet like skin and fruit.

Top notes of dried fruits, frankincense, palm date and rose; middle notes of amber, cedar, cinnamon, incense, jasmine, myrrh and orange blossom; and base notes of civet*, musk*, oud, sandalwood, tonka bean, vanilla and vetiver. *Synthetic Notes. Zoologist Camel does not use animal products.

Zoologist Perfumes is a groundbreaking and innovative perfume company based in Canada. They have a fascination with animals and their line of fragrances "captures the idiosyncrasies of the animal kingdom and transforms them into scents that are unusual, beautiful, fun and even shocking."

In information about Camel from their website: On a trek through an unforgiving desert, starting point and destination are indistinguishable from one another. Terracotta-hued dunes twist and writhe, their shapes ever-shifting. Only the merciless sun and aloof constellations can be trusted to point the way. Weighed down by treasures – some tempting the eyes with their glittering sheen, others enticing the taste buds with exotic aromas – the camel plods toward a far off marketplace. Water is but a dream for now, the taste of sweet dates a distant memory. There is nothing but an endless ocean of sand.

Camel is an extrait de parfum with a 20% perfume concentration.

Reviews of Zoologist Camel

From Now Smell This - "The musks in Camel smell of pre-deodorant humanity, but these humans burned incense and wore tiny silver cages around their necks with a sticky lump of "amber" inside. Camel presents an afterglow of incense (a quirky ash perfume). I love Camel's base: cedar, vetiver, amber and oud.  Camel's extreme dry down, that lasts most of the day, is spicy orange blossom mixing with incense. Camel belongs on my to-buy list."

From Fragrantica - "What an amazing release from zoologist this is! Really unique dried fruits opening, which translates to some spicy animalic scent. After that, the dries fruits come back with sweetness from amber, replace that generic and animalic spiciness. This is really good warm sweet fragrance, and a nice interpretation of the middle east instead of relying on oud. Will definitely get a full bottle - one of the best zoologist i have tried to date."

Fragrantica - " a fruit cake (at first) morphing into a slice of warm coffee cake - cinnamon. This makes me want some shakshuka (despite not having tomato or being super gourmand). The spicy fruity sweetness reminds of a 150 year old tea and spice shop I go to locally... as if I'm in a place where the air is just heavy with all of those things - fresh, dried, musty and musky... I'm transported and it really warms me. Even as it dries down more floral and spicy woody - the dried fruit mostly disappears. It is lush just slightly animalic and easily wearable - at least until someone tells me I look like a camel :) . Bottle worthy to me. I'm crazy in love with this."
