I'm more a ambre-tout-court woman than a ambregris one. I know it now! But Squid by Zoologist was a great surprise.

Ambergris is the undigestible remnants of cuttlefish from the Sperm Whale that washes up from time to time on the beach. It is extremely rare to find and hence extremely expensive. No whales are killed to maintain this fine perfume ingredient anymore. I know its sounds gross but the scent is divine and most ambergris based perfumes are quite intoxicating!! There are synthetic chemicals that do the job these days of creating the scent of ambergris.
