Description

Annick Goutal Sables is a woody Oriental blend of everlasting wildflowers, vanilla and sandalwood. Sables was launched in 1985 and has top notes of immortelle and cinnamon, middle notes of pepper and black tea and base notes of sandalwood and amber. Sables is an eau de toilette, edt.

Review of Annick Goutal Sables

Bois de Jasmin - "Immortelle, an everlasting dune flower with a distinctive savory maple syrup aroma, is not an easy note. It tends to dominate with its rich spicy warmth and dark sweetness. Annick Goutal Sables (1985) is brilliant, because it manages to build on immortelle without either twisting it beyond recognition or allowing it to assume a rustic demeanor. Even after experiencing the great immortelle compositions like Christian Dior Eau Noire and the playful ones like L de Lolita Lempicka, Sables still holds the crown for being the perfect example of a perfume based on immortelle."

Fragrantica: "Sables is a strong sentimental perfume that envelops my senses with its spicy, smoky sweet, peppery aura and daring temperament, softening to an embracing and comforting dark woody ambery aroma, that eliminates the passing of time."

Fragrantica: "a very nice, high quality, comforting almost-gourmand that doesn't lack class, perfect for just about any occasion in autumn and winter, for both men and women. I'm so glad I came across Sables"

    Great immortelle

Immortelle with accents of tea and black pepper. Slighly boozy and herbal in the opening.I don't detect noticeable sandalwood. The base is ambery/maple syrupy sweet, but not sticky or cloying. More masculine than feminine but falls in the unisex range. Definitely has an Eastern vibe. Might appeal to tobacco lovers as well. Great for cool weather.

    Sables -

Here is a quote from "Perfumes: The Guide" (Turin/Sanchez) "...an object lesson in the use of the difficult burnt-sugar/fenugreek note of immortelle..." Sables has longevity, originality; it stays close to your body a long time. The dry-down is not as sweet as the top notes, and the transition is smooth and beguiling. According to Turin, Goutal set the striking scent of immortelle on a conventional amber base, and that the current formulation is drier than the original and "...all the better for it".
