This is so bad for me... smells like a wet cellar, where people used to smoke for decades. the smell is sweet and nauseating. The worst part it's very hard to get rid off.
By Kilian Black Phantom 'Memento Mori" is part of the Collection L'oeuvre Noire (Black Masterpiece). While the first six By Kilian Perfumes in the series were well-received, that many at one time was a little overwhelming. Launched in 2017, created by Sidonie Lancesseur, this is an oriental vanilla unisex fragrance with notes of rum, sugar cane, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, almond, heliotrope and sandalwood.
Kilian Hennessy launched By Kilian in 2007. Yup, the Cognac Hennessy, grandson to the founder of Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton Group, he followed his interest in scent, writing his thesis on the semantics of odors. After spending time with leading perfumers, he launched By Kilian with the Collection L'oeuvre Noire (Black Masterpiece) series. There are now 10 fragrances in that series. The over-the-top marketing copy drew a lot of criticism in the early part of his launch, but the gorgeous packaging - black lacquer boxes and black bottles - started to win us over, as did the artistry of the fragrances.

I’m smitten. The opening reminds me a lot of YSL Sleek Suede, which I adore for its boozy, chocolatey nuttiness which nonetheless reads as very sophisticated. The biggest difference is a jammy note that to my nose is most reminiscent to strawberries in Black Phantom. After about an hour or so BP transforms more into a salted caramel mixed with (somewhat awkwardly but it’s still delightful) Salmiak licorice, that continues for hours to come. There’s something very unique to this scent that keeps me smelling my wrists throughout the wear. Can’t leave it alone, it’s too intriguing.
