Description

A natural disaster is a catastrophic event caused by Earth's natural processes that severely impacts human populations, infrastructure and the environment. These occurrences overwhelm local capacity to cope and result in significant loss of life, property damage and economic disruption. Included are earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides/avalanche, hurricanes (tropical cyclone), tornado, flood, wildfire, tsunami and drought. Additional natural hazards include meteorites, heat waves, blizzards, dust storms, firestorms, hail, ice storms, sinkholes, thunderstorms, tornadoes, monsoons and tsunamis. While an unusual subject for a sampler, there are some fabulous fragrances inspired by natural disasters. I have added one scent inspired by deforestation. While not a natural disaster,  I thought the scent was beautiful and it fits into the sampler idea. I also added one fragrance that is inspired by a natural form of beauty – aurora borealis.

You will receive a 1/2ml sample (1ml sample vial filled half full) of each of the fragrances in this sampler.

  1. (EARTHQUAKE) Filippo Sorcinelli Delire de Voyage Epicentro Extrait de Parfum – Epicentro is the fragrance dedicated to an earthquake, and in particular, to the small town of Bolognola, a small town of 138 inhabitants, the highest of the Marche Region, located in the center of the Park Monti Sibillini National Park, severely affected by an earthquake. The earthquake is a particularly disruptive event violent, which arrogantly enters the lives of those who are involved, taking possession in seconds of their “normality”. External earthquakes increase our earthquakes interior: it is as if, with the disappearance of the security of the ground under your feet, a reflex was determined deep internal tremor. Fear and suffocation from dust is the first passage, escape the second, leaving everything: objects, memories, necessities, looking desperately to find refuge outside. The vision is blurred, eyes and throat sore from dust caused by the collapses; you try to find in the despair a small and faint light, which will become the only point of reference. Epicentro wants to be the reaction: to become aware of what happened, process it and react through it the security of a thought related to Beauty. Epicentro is a real artistic installation full of emotions that leads to actively enter within the work, through stimuli content that activates all five senses. It is a woody aromatic fragrance that launched in 2019 and features top notes of vetiver, angelica, benzoin, fir balsam, cumin, ambergris and lignum vitae; middle notes of calamus, ambrette seeds and mate; and base notes of Virginia cedarwood, bergamot and cedarwood.
  2. (WILDFIRE) Folkwinds Smoke Jumping II Extrait de Parfum – A nod to the fire seasons which overlapped with Napa and Sonoma’s harvests in 2018, 2019 and 2020. As the perfumer recalled their time spent in cellars, it’s impossible to separate those memories from living in and around wildfire smoke. Mother Nature is powerful. Smoke Jumping II builds on the success of the original; the only differences stem from upgrading the charred oak accord to charred AMBURANA, and incorporating agarwood resins. These changes make for a more true-to-life alpine smoke experience. It features notes of charred AMBURANA, mulled concord grapes, purple oud resins, alpine smoke, vanilla and deer musk. This extrait de parfum is created at 50% concentration.
  3. (MONSOON) Fyrinnae Southwest Monsoon Perfume Oil - Around mid-summer, the desert monsoon season begins in the southwestern United States, bringing sudden downpours onto parched land, often causing flash flooding. There are similar monsoons in other regions across Earth, but this is designed to have elements reminiscent of the four corners area and west New Mexico. With a breeze of white sage, this fragrance was designed to bring to mind the scents of dry, cracked desert soil suddenly turning to mud while the rain it can't absorb runs toward roadways.
  4. (BLIZZARD) Imaginary Authors The Language of Glaciers EDP - Created by Josh Meyer. Have you ever stood alone atop a mountain with chunky snowflakes swirling all around? Such is the splendor you will experience within The Language of Glaciers, a romantic epic which reaches incredible heights and inspires one to leave no moment unappreciated. From the stillness of a moonlit snowshoe excursion, to the rush of witnessing an avalanche safely from above, the recollections of our unnamed narrator will captivate you the same way the solitary song of the snow owl captivated them. Find comfort in the cold and begin to see the world from stunning new perspectives. With notes of white pine, lilac, cashmere, juniper, forget me not, blue bugle and virgin snowfall.
  5. (AURORA BOREALIS) Le Gout de Peau Aurora Borealis EDP - Between moss and ice, a gentle glacier quells the bonfire. Beneath the celestial curtain, the aurora starts to dance. A vision of the spectacular, ethereal beauty of the Northern Lights as seen from the near-arctic reaches of Heilongjiang Province, Aurora Borealis is a meditative and deeply moving fragrance that perfectly captures the almost overwhelmingly gorgeous meditation on the natural phenomenon that links heaven to earth. With notes of lemon balm, snow, green tea, pine needles, Siberian fir, honeysuckle, Changbai pine, earth and herbs.
  6. (DEFORESTATION) Olympic Orchids Woodcut Parfum - Winner of the 2015 Art and Olfaction Award in the artisan category, Woodcut links contemporary, technology-based society to raw nature. Strong lines and delicate tracery combine to tell an archetypal tale of man’s rape of the earth. Woodcut conjures up dark images of ancient trees inhabited by spirits from a time when the earth was new, the flowing sap of felled trees, and the burnt sugar of the trees’ blood when it is heated by the saws of lumbermen and builders. The inspiration for this fragrance came from passing by a building site where old trees had been newly cut for a development and lumber was being sawed for a fence. The scent of cut wood was intoxicatingly beautiful and primitive, like a fleeting glimpse of the invisible essence of life spilled carelessly on the ground and burned as an offering to human greed. Woodcut was released in 2014 and was created by Ellen Covey. It features notes of fractional distillations of pine and cedar, oakwood absolute, tolu balsam, olibanum, caramel, burnt sugar and vanilla.
  7. (VOLCANO) Orto Parisi Terroni EDP - An oriental woody fragrance that launched in 2017 and was created by Alessandro Gualtieri. "There’s something powerful and fulfilling about putting your hands in the soil, the feeling that you got all the roots in your hands and knowing that the Earth belongs to all of us." Terroni is inspired by the roots and the land around the volcano Vesuvius, presented in a fiery red color. Deep, intense and earthy, it features a top note of raspberry, middle notes of birch, amber and benzoin; and base notes of guaiacwood, vetiver, cedar, musk, patchouli, moss, tonka and vanilla.
  8. (FLOOD) Santa Maria Novella Angels of Florence (Angeli Di Firenze) EDC - Angeli di Firenze tells you an emotional story, inspired by 800 years of tradition. It is dedicated to the Mud Angels, youth from all over the world, who flocked to Florence after the flood, to save the heart and history of the city. Created in 2006 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Florence flood, it opens with juicy notes of peach combined with the brilliance of citrus fruits. In the middle, marine notes are sweetened with black currant and illuminated by jasmine. On the bottom note, musk and sandalwood are accompanied by an elegant vanilla note.
