Description

D.S. & Durga Wipeout! was launched in 2022. Notes of ginger lily, guava flower, surf spray, ylang ylang, osmanthus, coconut milk, vanilla orchid, javanese vetyver, and bustin' surfboards. D.S. & Durga Wipeout! is an eau de parfum, edp.

From the brand -

"Catch a break beyond boardshops brimming with flower patterns nestled near touristy trinket stores & sad hat racks. Wipeout!”

“I dig anywhere by the ocean. I grew up on the coast and love the culture of seaside towns. There’s always a shop with board shorts, towels, & vague activewear covered in tropical plants. You’ll find a monument of overpriced rainbow-hued sunglasses next to dead local trinkets. A sad hat rack with floppy buckets and snap backs advertise the “salt life.”Perhaps a display of signature keychains (whose makers must schvitz trying to keep up with the multitude of first names these days). This store smells of sun tan lotion, coconuts, the sea outside, and flowery soaps purporting to whisk you away to the South Pacific. As if the flower prints on the clothes have come alive. Surf’s up!"

D.S. & Durga Wipeout! Reviews

Fragrantica: The year is 1998 and I'm 8 years old. My grandpa, surf wax enmeshed into his chest hair, is on one knee with my foot in his lap wiping beach tar off my heel with paper towels and baby oil. My grandmother is cutting a fresh bouquet from her window sill flower garden that is nestled in a flowing mass of vines with white flowers right above us. She is chiding me but mostly my grandfather about being more careful of tar, a forced and exaggerated serious tone betrayed by the smile at the corners of her mouth. Snap back to reality, I'm standing in the DS and Durga store on Abbot Kinney with the sample in up near my nose still, the sales woman is upselling me this perfume after I went in to buy a specific candle. I can't even hear what she's saying I already know I'm getting a full bottle. This smells like The Beach, but not just any beach. My Beach. Venice Beach. I don't know how they did it, it even has the smell of the boardwalk, which I frankly do not have the words to put to screen in describing and I've already said enough. I'm about 3 hours in and it's settled into a still very solid beachy marine flowery fruity balance. Will update with more about silage and longevity maybe but I just had to come on here and gush. I've never really got myself a solidified "Signature Scent" before, just sort of played at it. Instantly this is now my my Signature Scent without question. Masterpiece. 10/10

Fragrantica: What a fun fragrance. If you're familiar with the wax that surfers or skaters would use on their boards, this fragrance is a direct reference to that So-Cal fixture. The opening is floral and sun-screen-like, and the dry down is this interesting waxy vetiver combination with a warm and sweet undertone to it. I was expecting this fragrance to lean more into the creamy florals of a sunscreen scent, but the vetiver is perhaps the biggest player in this scent (at least to my nose). It certainly delivers on the house's realistic "place in a bottle" vibe. I do wish it had a little more longevity, I get maybe 2-3 hours out of it before it becomes a skin scent (but it's a good skin scent).

Fragrantica: Got my sample of this yesterday after wanting to try it for a while and I am in love! I only own one other perfume by DS (Jasmine), and had bought the full bottle since I had to spend a certain amount to get 30% off (looking back I wish I had chosen more candles, as I do like the perfume, but I also feel like the DS full-size perfumes are over priced, as I don’t find the scent to stay for a long period of time, but do find the fragrances unique. I only got a 2 ml sample and sprayed quite a bit on one arm last evening while testing 4160 tuesdays warm sands, blue ocean perfume (they aren’t comparable, but after spraying a bit more I did pick up on some similarities, and since I sprayed more, the scent seemed to stick for several hours. I sprayed wipeout this afternoon (no other scents), and didnt spray as much as I did yesterday, so it’s not as strong, but I am 90% sure I’m going to buy a FB of it, as I do believe that it is a beautiful scent. I do think a lot of fragrances on the site by various brands who make most if not all their scents unisex, not to be the case 70% of the time, but to each its own. I will say that as a girl, this perfume smells lovely on me, and find the vetyver note to be quite woody, which makes this feel like an all year round scent as well as something that could smell alluring on a man, but don’t find it leaning towards one vs the other, to me this really is unisex in the best way. I don’t pick up on the guava much, maybe at the very beginning but I do find the coconut scent to shine but not be overshadowed by other notes, even though not listed, I get a hint of surf wax and maybe frangipani? The vanilla isn’t cloying, but it isn’t subtle either, bringing a warmth of sweetness. I find it tropical in a way that’s hard to describe, as well as comforting. Beachy vibes but not aquatic, the smell of the dry sand but far enough from the ocean where marine isn’t depicted. A hint of sunscreen perhaps and some tropical flowers that are near by, a brand new pool toy that smells like foam blocks when you were a kid, and passing by the homemade vanilla frozen custard that you will be having for dessert.

Spicy, woody, summer scent (leans SLIGHTLY masculine)

Summertime ginger and wood, with the latter being the most prominent on the dry down. At first spray is where I get the more “beachy” vibe, but what remains in the 5-ish hours that this lasted on my skin is more like those beach hut stores described by the fragrance’s creators. Sillage is moderate, but it quickly turns into a skin scent (that said, my wrists are perfume eaters. I think this might work wonderfully on clothes but I ordered a dabber. If you enjoy your woody frags, it’s worth a sample for the summer weather! And HUGE thanks to Surrender to Chance. This was my first experience shopping with them, and the shipping speed, packaging and service was top notch.
