A natural disaster is a catastrophic event caused by Earth's natural processes that severely impacts human populations, infrastructure and the environment. These occurrences overwhelm local capacity to cope and result in significant loss of life, property damage and economic disruption. Included are earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides/avalanche, hurricanes (tropical cyclone), tornado, flood, wildfire, tsunami and drought. Additional natural hazards include meteorites, heat waves, blizzards, dust storms, firestorms, hail, ice storms, sinkholes, thunderstorms, tornadoes, monsoons and tsunamis. While an unusual subject for a sampler, there are some fabulous fragrances inspired by natural disasters.

- (MONSOON) Ella K Pluie Sur Ha Long EDP - Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. Water is everywhere. Beneath the junks slowly breaking the surface of the sea, in the humid air, and in the distance, in the rain approaching with the monsoon. In each of its forms, water carries the scents of the surrounding nature. This fragrance is an ode to water in all its forms. That of the sea, a fabulous contrast of transparency and emerald green; that of the mist, loaded with humidity; that of the warm rain of the monsoon. With notes of pink pepper, nashi pear, rhubarb, lotus, water jasmine, magnolia, rose, Ambrofix, musk and Akigalawood.
- (FLOOD) Nocturne Alchemy Venice Perfume Oil - From the Cities of the Dead Collection, this fragrance calls to mind the scent of Venice and the flooding of the lagoon. It features notes of Venetian lagoon cucumber extract, cedar essential oil, fresh dirt accord, loam and cemetery dirt.
- (VOLCANO) Olympic Orchids Kilauea Parfum - In May of 2018, the East Rift Zone of Kilauea volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii began a major eruption that lasted for months. It started in a quiet residential neighborhood when a little bit of hot lava oozed up from cracks in the road, but it rapidly escalated when a string of major fissures opened up, some turning into lava fountains that projected molten lava more than 50 meters into the air and created a glowing lava river that ran all the way into the ocean, destroying houses and farms, jungles, beaches, and tide pools, all the while creating new land. The process of destruction and creation happened against a backdrop of lush tropical vegetation, blooming with lightly-scented flowers of pikake, plumeria and yellow ginger. The vog (volcanic smog) was so thick that you could smell it all the way on the other side of the island. This scent mixes the smell of smoke, lava, live flowers, green and burning vegetation, and the unpredictable earth that gives rise to it all. After the eruption is over and the lava has dried and crumbled, there will sooner or later be the sweet, resinous scent of the seeds that will sprout and bring life back to the black desert.
