Description

Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur was released in 2019, created by Alberto Morillas, centered around Roman chamomile that was grown in Rome in the gardens since the 16th century. There is a soft plushness in the perfume that is unique, which is a hard thing to get in today's fragrance market. Notes of chamomile, bitter almond, musk, jasmine, Indian jasmine, sandalwood, cedar and vanilla.  Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur is an eau de parfum, edp.

From the perfumer - "The musky mineral accord is the keystone of the fragrance: it links all the other olfactive elements together with pure softness.  “I had to think quite carefully about why Alessandro chose chamomile. When I started to work with the scent of chamomile itself, then I understood. No one had done it before. Chamomile is known all over the world. Everyone has smelt it at some point, but as a dream, a memory of childhood, something timeless, and never in a fragrance. This flower is much underestimated and is a plant with an exceptional olfactive signature.

Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur Review

Candy Perfume Boy - "I’ll be honest, it’s been a long time since something novel and so new has found its way into the mainstream and for that reason Memoire d’une Odeur is an exciting fragrance. It’s also a divisive one too (as are all the best fragrances) – everyone I’ve shown it to has either loved it and found it compelling or they’ve hated it. For me, this is the fragrance’s strength – it is distinct and unique, and offers something entirely new. Memoire d’une Odeur caught my attention immediately but more importantly, it has kept it and if I don’t drain my bottle by the end of the summer (it wears wonderfully in the heat – it’s fresh, cold, slightly bitter and crystalline) I’ll be very surprised."

Basenotes - "This chamomile scent opens with a mineral veil that hovers briefly like a whisper-thin skein of netting before settling into a bittersweet floral with a touch of soft flax. While it is too transparent to be as textured and grounding as dried chamomile, it manages to suggest powder, milkiness and spiciness. Dries down to a gentle musk."

Fragrantica - "the scent somehow transports me instantaneously to Italy. I imagine being in a rural villa in early-mid September, sitting in a sunlit bedroom surrounded by old books, flipping the pages, writing letters, running down the old, creaky wooden stairs to hop on an even creakier old bicycle outside, riding to some old village somewhere, enjoying the very last days of summer and the very first days of fall."

    Beware first sniff impression!

I had studied up on this fragrance for a while before deciding to sample it. I knew on paper it would be right up my alley, and it had fabulous reviews amongst perfume loving folk who's taste I generally trusted. However, upon first sniff I found it very underwhelming and a little generic- like an inoffensive hair spray. THAT BEING SAID I did try this one with a proper sprayer vs. the little dabber sample vial and found that the scent really opened up with some air behind it and have purchased a mini bottle to hopefully continue building a relationship with a scent I'd really like to love. Give it a shot!
