Description

Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille was created by Jean-Paul Guerlain and launched in 2007 - that is the first bottle, which had a black label  with a red seal thing near the top of the bottle under the neck.  That isn't the version we have, though it is the perfect version. This has long been a favorite of people who like vanilla perfumes. If you do NOT like vanilla perfumes,  you can just keep going.  It is similar to Hermessence Ambre Narguile, though I find Ambre Narguile to have less cozy and more fierce amber.  It has been compared to Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla.  I mean, yeah, they are a little alike, Spiritueuse Double Vanille is warmer, cozier, plays nicer.

Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille later joined the l'Matiere lineup. The bottle we are decanting from is the new bottle from 2021 pictured here. We aren't detecting any major (if any) differences, but wanted you to know the version we are decanting from.

Notes are pink pepper, bergamot, incense, ylang, cedar, Bulgarian rose, jasmine, benzoin and vanilla. This has long been one of the most popular vanilla fragrances we've had.

Reviews of Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille

From Kafkaesque - "If you like comforting, warm, sweet and boozy scents, I think you should give Spiritueuse Double Vanille a try. It’s not earth-shattering, but it is very cozy and I suspect some may find it wholly addictive."

From Perfume Posse Comprehensive review of Vanilla perfumes - "Not huffing black smoke like Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille, but huffing embers of vanilla. It stays close to the skin and lets gentle vanilla ..."

From Now Smell This - "It starts out thick and rich, with boozy undertones and a swirl of something smoky that reminds me of vanilla-scented pipe tobacco (the notes: vanilla, spices, benzoin, frankincense, cedar, pink pepper, bergamot, Bulgarian rose and ylang ylang)."

From Olfactoria's Travels - "Spiritueuse Double Vanille goes on to be deeper, more vanillary and somehow denser and richer than the Hermessence. It is an extremely yummy scent. I could bury my nose in my wrist whenever I wear it. But still, it never makes me feel like somebodys dessert"

    The BEST Vanilla

I believe this is the best vanilla perfume. Have tried other popular ones and none of them measure up. It's as if others have 'scent fillers' that cheapen the vanilla scent or make it too cologne-y. This is the closest thing I've smelled to dabbing on vanilla extract with a hint of booze. It's perfect and I now understand why it's so expensive. I WILL buy the full-sized bottle one day, but for now, I'm so happy and grateful that STC has it!

    Wanted to love Guerlain's vanilla

With Guerlain being one of my favorite mainstream designer houses and in search of my holy grail vanilla, I was excited to try this one from their exclusive L'Art & La Matiere line. It's a nice vanilla, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't wowed by the scent itself or the performance and for $360 for 100ml, I need to love it and it needs to perform well on me. If I had to describe the scent, I'd say it's a mysterious, slightly boozy vanilla. Reading those words, I should love this, I just...don't. Sigh. This seems to be a "maybe it's just me" situation, considering the glowing reviews this fragrance has. I still love Guerlain, but my search for the ultimate vanilla continues.

    Exquisite

If you're looking for a grown-up, sensual, warm, luscious, luxurious, wrist-sniffing, snug, give-me-a-long hug vanilla fragrance, look no further. I'm not sure how I heard about Spiritueuse Double Vanille, but I'm thrilled that I did, and I'm ecstatic that Surrender To Chance offered it in samples. It's not a sweet, ooey-gooey vanilla fragrance. It's rich and boozy. A vibrant and golden vanilla splendor, invigorating and addictive, blended with liquor notes of rum and cedarwood for a luminous and rare composition. TOP NOTES: Pink Pepper, Bergamot, Frankincense. HEART NOTES: Bulgarian rose, Jasmine, Ylang-ylang. BASE NOTES: Vanilla, Benzoin, Rum. On my skin, I also get a whiff of sweet pipe tobacco (not smoking...but, before you put it in the pipe). Reminded me of my dad. I'm a female, but I'd say this might be unisex??? If you don't believe me on how wonderful this is, go to Instagram and search Spiritueuse Double Vanille and watch the video by thecandyperfumeboy. I know this is an expensive fragrance, but this is an early Christmas present for me. Thank you Surrender To Chance for offering such a fabulous scent.
