J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin Altruist

J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin Altruist was a winner in the 2017 Art & Olfaction Awards in the Independent category. The Art and Olfaction Awards are presented to just four perfumes and one experimental scent project a year. They are designed to raise public interest and awareness around new developments in independent perfumery. The awards are given to outstanding creators in the categories of independent, artisan and experimental perfume from across the globe. 

Altruist was created in collaboration with Berlin artist Paul DeFlorian as an Art Edition. Working with Veronique Nyberg, the fragrance was inspired by the atmosphere and colors of his painting. Altruist features top notes (Transparency) of bergamot essence, lemon essence, Aqual™ and Ginger Pure Jungle Essence™; middle notes (Imagination) of rose superessence, orange blossom absolute, nutmeg essence and Black Pepper Pure Jungle Essence™; and base notes (Contrast) of cedarwood essence, vetiver essence, patchouli essence and Ambramone™.

Fragrance and art are linked through the aspiration to reach out to new experiences. For 2016 we decided to work with artist Paul DeFlorian, giving him a maximum influence in all aspects of this project. This included not only the concept, name and the look but also the composition of the scent itself. Together with our perfumer, he translated his painted work and his imagination into a scent, a concept, and a look for the packaging and the bottle. The result is Altruist, an elegant but unconventional perfume. Dry and humid in equal measure, it combines deep contrasts and transmits a bright freshness. A scent for feminists, cyborgs and survivors.
