Musk is one of those notes that can be very iffy on me. To my surprise, this one works for me. The musk is definitely front and center. This smells sexy and mellow at the same time. I like it.
First created in the 1920's and then reintroduced in 1963, this is a synthetic musk and is inspired by a "musky extract derived from a miniature antler-less deer which originates deep in the Himalayan mountains". It features top notes of orange blossom and bergamot; middle notes of lily, neroli, ylang-ylang and rose; and base notes of tonka bean, musk and patchouli. Original Musk Blend No. 1 is an eau de toilette, edt.
Interesting to note, is that Musk Blend No. 1 is part of the Smithsonian's collection of cosmetics and personal care products displayed at the National Museum of American History.

I fell in love with this the first time I smelled it. and I brought it a bunch of times. I still love it but it does not smell the same as the first time. and it does not last as long as it did at first. Even at that it is still one of my fave. I give it four stars

Love this musk. It smells like the body of someone you lust after AND love. Like they just went swimming in the ocean, got out, dried out in the sun and started to sweat just the tiniest bit. Clean, delicious. Skin & sin? Absolutely!
This scent is reminiscent of high school for me - when my love of all things fragrance related first developed. I had a vanity covered in little bottles of musk oils from all over the globe and tiny sample bottles of things like Coco, Tabu, Cachet, Charlie, etc. It started a life-long obsession with scent that is still going strong 25 years later. While I don't think I've ever actually tried the Kiehl's musk until now, it absolutely takes me back to the age of 17-18 when everyone was constantly commenting "You smell amazing! What are you wearing?!?!" to me. While I still receive compliments on my choices of perfume, experiencing that as a young woman really solidified in me the impact scent has on us all. The base musk note in here is animalic (inspired, after all, by the musk deer) and rather reminiscent of "wet baby nappies"... but the whole of the scent is sweet, soft, and very feminine to me.
One of my fave fragrances! A true musk.
