The small crocus flower, from which the saffron spice derives, is depicted in art from time immemorial; it shows up in Minoan frescoes from the Akrotiri ruins on the island of Santorini, dating from 1600BC. The aromatic component, richly bitter-spicy and subtly leather-smelling, actually comes from the stamen, the delicate red threads in the core of the flower, which are picked by hand. Hence the Santorini fresco is called The Saffron Gatherers.
Saffron Orris is a tribute to this rare, more-precious-than-gold flower that blooms for only twenty days each year in the Kozani region in northern Greece. The saffron notes are surrounded by the freshness of mandarin and the spicy, warm notes of nutmeg and sandalwood. The sage stands in the center along with the iris — a blossom that gives the scent a woody aroma, blended with notes of sweet and aromatic powders. It took three years to perfect this iris blend.
Saffron Orris is an Amber fragrance for women that launched in 2019. It features top notes of saffron, nutmeg, sandalwood and mandarin orange; middle notes of orris and sage; and base notes of powdery notes and sweet notes. Saffron Orris is an eau de toilette, edt.
