Vétiver Écarlate is a unisex woody fragrance that was created by Quentin Bisch and launched in 2022. It showcases the warm summer memory of tomato leaves crumpled between the fingers. A contrast between this green, acidic and fruity scent and the dark, racy notes of vetiver. In the top notes, grapefruit and bergamot propel the freshness of the tomato leaf. The green notes of galbanum evoke the stem, while the blackcurrant bud outlines the acid and fruity nuances of the vegetable. Finally ginger adds a touch of spice to this vegetal and woody scent. Vetiver Ecarlate is an eau de parfum, edp.
L'ARTISAN VETIVER ECARLATE REVIEWS
Basenotes: I adore vegetal scents, so I'm the perfect audience for an offbeat perfume like this. I like every single note in its composition, and have recently gone almost gaga over blackcurrant, so I'm kind of doubly enthused about it. On me the tomato leaf shows up right at the opening, and the galbanum and grapefruit are fairly light. The bitter blackcurrant shows up early and hangs in there pretty much through the life of the scent (about 6-7 hours on my dry skin), and tends to overpower the vetiver in the base. I wouldn't object to a bit more ginger in the base, too, for a little extra lift amid all that greenery. You're only going to enjoy this fragrance if you really like tomato leaf and blackcurrant. The whole enterprise has the ambiance of a kitchen garden after a rainshower, with the leafy smells mingling with soil. I like it very, very much and am eager to try the rest of the Le Potager collection from L'Artisan.
Basenotes: A nice homage to Jean-Claude Ellena. Everything is here - the tomato leaf from Eau de Campagne, the bitter citrus of Terre d'Hermes, even a hint of rhubarb. Otherwise, it's a nice, radiant grapefruit for boys, albeit a bit dull. Will probably sell well. I will say that by L'Artisan standards this is straight up durable, which will make some people happy.
Fragrantica: I'm absolutely obsessed with this fragrance. It is the best grapefruit I've ever smelled and I think that is because the ginger punches up the tartness a notch. I can absolutely smell the tomato leave and it is just like rubbing it between your fingers- all gardeners know! Usually citrus brightness fades quickly in perfumes and this one doesn't. I would like to note that there is no sweetness in this fragrance, but just tons of freshness. I love it so much.
Fragrantica: A really unique fresh and zingy opening with the tomato leaf and grapefruit. The vetiver lends a great earthiness to round out the fragrance. Great end of summer transitional fragrance heading into Fall.
Fragrantica: Such an out of the box smell. Opens up very green and bitter, like the smell of cannabis, dries down to a woody, green, grapefruit smell. Not your average fresh citrusy smell. Worth sampling.
Fragrantica: Yes the grapefruit is a bit loud and sour but the tomato leaf is clearly there, especially in the beginning. It is almost photo-realistic. It is not mysterious. It's a linear clean scent. This is a refreshing scent perfect for a hot summer day.
Fragrantica: Love at first sniff. Fresh aromatic vetiver and tomato leaf. It's almost alive. A very unique fresh and green perfume. I think this is a clearly masculine fragrance, can't really imagine it on a woman. When I smell this, I can instantly image a vibrant vivid garden, meant in the best way possible. The price is quite hard on this, but it's a French niche, what to expect?
Fragrantica: A bright and friendly-smelling tomato leaf scent! It's one of the most nostalgic-smelling perfumes I've ever smelled - it reminds me of summers I spent in my cousin's backyard gardens that were full of giant tomato plants. It also happens to be one of my most compliment scents - there's something about an immediately identifiable note that makes a perfume an amazing conversation starter.
Fragrantica: Biting and deliciously tart tomato leaf that would make the Very Hungry Caterpillar's mouth water to no end. Insolently green; it reminds me of mornings spent crouching in the dirt of a garden to coax ladybugs onto my fingertip. A happy scent.
Fragrantica: This is liquefied tomato leaf: fresh, green, spicy, viney. It's perfect for the height of summer. I've been reaching for it all season and will definitely purchase a full bottle once I've emptied my samples!
Fragrantica: Opens dewy green with a hot pepper note. Citrus dominates projection. Turns into equal parts pulpy pink grapefruit and dry tomato leaf. Pleasant, and even though I wasn’t initially excited, the projection is surprisingly strong and the green stem/leaf elevates it. Imperfect, but worth trying if you like grapefruit and green scents. Hours later, the tomato vine/leaf is still projecting like crazy, which is super rare and not easy to find. Impressive. Hours after that, all that’s left is warm vetiver that’s a perfect comedown. Can’t believe how long this one lasts. Such a varied experience, too.
