Maison Mataha Evasion Bonbon was released in 2024, created by Olivier Maurel. Strawberry floof is what you are thinking you are getting, and it is a little bit that but not what you are expecting from the list of notes! Not a safe blind buy - it is not Strawberry Floof. Notes of caramel, strawberry candy, marshmallow, jasmine, ylang, vanilla and musk. Maison Mataha Evasion Bonbon is an extrait de parfum, edp.
From the brand - "Evasion Bonbon is that candy that takes you right back to childhood, the one that makes you smile as soon as you smell it. From the very first notes, a sweet, melting wave envelops you, like a comforting candy that melts delicately in your mouth. Powerful, indulgent and gentle, it transports you to simple, happy memories. A perfect escape, full of tenderness, like a sweet treat you can't help but love."
Fragrantica - "this fragrance is not what I had anticipated. the top of this is strawberry bubblegum through and through to me. when i first spray this i honestly have to take a second to breathe bc I find it to be kind of overwhelming. i think i was expecting this fragrance to be fluffy, marshmallowy — but it’s not. this is way less of a fluffy kind of sweetness (think cupcake fluffy, cake fluffy, marshmallow fluffy) and more of a hard candy kind of sweetness. i believe that was the perfumers original intent (this is to mimic those strawberry cream creme savers) which this perfume succeeds at. but i'm struggling to enjoy the top. something in smells almost leathery & a bit medicinal to me. however as the fragrance drys down i start to enjoy it more - BUT (and big BUT) on my skin ONLY. on my skin, the headiness of it that I didn’t care for in the beginning goes away, and it becomes softer, flirtier, pretty. i think the floral blend here is actually my favorite part because the jasmine & ylang ylang work together so beautifully. the jasmine lends a bit of elegance to this otherwise playful scent. it’s not indolic to my nose at all. the ylang ylang is super creamy and a bit bright (gives the fragrance a nice flair imo). throughout all of this the strawberry stays, a lot less bubblegummy though. the caramel I don’t pick up too much at all till later in the dry down. at the base, the main notes for me are the strawberry, musk, and ylang ylang mainly (in that order). there’s a bit of vanilla here too. a touch of caramel. to me this is fruity > musky > floral more than gourmand. if you’re expecting something sweet along the lines of princess by kilian, tihota, minnie mouse HOS, hufflepuff HOS, pour femme, sintra, happy dust (more fluffy marshmallow vibes) this might not be for you. this fragrance is more along the lines of something like manakara to me (replace the rose with ylang ylang and the lychee with strawberry). more of gourmandISH perfume. brownie pop would be the more gourmand of the two."
Fragrantica - "Much better than I expected, for sure the best strawberry-forward fragrance I've tried. This one does smell like those strawberry swirl candies. Quite sweet in the opening and tones down a bit towards the mid and drydown. Smells great in the air and love catching whiffs of this one. Borderline too feminine for me as a guy, but since it becomes less sweet in the drydown I will probably rock this."
Fragrantica - "This scent has absolutely taken me by surprise! I had planned to pass on this one, as it isn’t something I’d usually go for, but thought I’d give it a try. This is everything I wanted from the new Kayali boogie marshmallow. Kayali is quite juvenile smelling to me and reminds me of a cheap McD’s strawberry milkshake with a musky note and no marshmallow. Evasion Bonbon smells exactly as they intended it to. It isn’t juvenile or cheap smelling at all. I get very realistic and creamy strawberry candy or “Cream Savers” hard candy sweets to be exact. It also reminds me of the powdered pink strawberry sugar Bon Bon toffees, both sweets we used to get in the 80’s. This is a scent for a cool sunny day. It makes me feel happy. It’s a sweet, nostalgic, comforting and fun daytime scent. It’s so well blended and delicious. The sweetness is also just right. It is very sickly sweet on the initial spray, but don’t be put off! It dies down quite quickly … and I absolutely love the dry down! I can’t stop smelling my wrist. It’s addictive!"
