Marissa Zappas Annabel's Birthday Cake was created in collaboration with Astrologer Annabel Gat, born one day apart from Marissa. They wanted to create a whimsical and ethereal cake perfume - celebrating the sweetness of life, all the years gone by. It is enchanting. Notes of heliotrope, lemon sugar, balloons, candied rose petals, tuberose frosting, Cake (fresh out of the oven), honeycomb, roasted tonka, cocoa absolute. This is an eau de parfum, edp.
Marissa Zappas is a new line of fragrances that launched in 2022. She is a perfumer, scent designer, and poet based in New York City. Her approach to perfumery merges her background in anthropology with her admiration for avant garde perfumes of the early twentieth century.
Marissa Zappas Annabel's Birthday Cake REVIEWS
Fragrantica - "Wow this fragrance is incredibly complex. I maybe underestimated it as I ordered it expecting a more refined Pink Sugar (I mean that in the best way possible). I wanted a fun, girly, gourmandy youthful perfume to transport me back to the days of playing with my Strawberry Shortcake doll. (This doesn't look like it actually has strawberry, but the sugary florals give off strawberry vibes). This is exactly our beloved Strawberry Shortcake doll, except she's grown up now- she's grown up and she lives in her own apartment, which she has painted pink and filled with flowers and vanilla candles."
Fragrantica - "Annabel's Birthday Cake is romantic and playful and reminds me of getting ready to go out with a group of girlfriends – applying lip gloss, trying on different combinations of tights, tulle, and velvet, with roses on the vanity, listening to The Sugarcubes. It's magnetic and comforting like hugging a pretty girl and wanting to bury your face in her neck and inhale for 5 minutes straight. The vanilla and cacao notes also make this perfume feel festive and good enough to eat. If this is sounding too saccharine, it's not. ABC is sophisticated and smells expensive. It also consistently garners the most compliments of any fragrance I wear. I love everything by Marissa Zappas but this one is extra special."
Fragrantica - "I've been trying to find the perfect words to describe Annabel's Birthday Cake for almost two months, but every time I'm transported back to the same visual of a decadent sapphic luncheon spent scarcely clothed in an ambiguously located French garden, visions of white linens and pastel pinstripes abound; the scent of nearby lemon trees wafting through the air. Think: Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. Coquettish and playfully innocent with a twist. It's sweetness is incredibly delicate and beautiful, making itself known without overpowering, which perfectly balances the elements of youthful nostalgia and contemporary sophistication. Truly such a unique and delightful fragrance!"
Fragrantica - "The perfect gourmand was finally created! This was not what I was expecting when I first smelled it! It is not your average birthday cake. The candied roses and tuberose frosting brilliantly unite the natural sweetness of flowers with the fluffy white cake aspects, along with the slightest hint of patchouli to balance out the sugar.
Gourmands can sometimes be too much to wear all day but this one magically performs as to have an even amount of projection all through the day. I like to over-spray this one (30+ sprays), it lasts for hours but I never get tired of it and just want to keep smelling my skin all day. Also a compliment getter!"
