Nishane Afrika Olifant was launched in 2015, created by Jorge Lee. Parts musky oriental and chypre, it is a dirty, dirty animalic with loads of charm and not as hard to wear as you might think on first sniff. It smooths out into a little less dirty incense leather. The reviews describe it not so flattering (dung, zoo in a bottle, dirty diaper). Oh, come on! Yeah, it starts off a little rough, but wait a bit, and you will be rewarded with something pretty amazing and unique. Notes of ambergris, frankincense, myrrh, labdanum, castoreum, civet, leather, oud and musk.
Nishane Afrika Olifant Reviews
Fragrantica - "This is a beautiful fragrance. It's ability to bring together incense and multiple animalic notes to flow in this harmony is rare. It gives me a slight old school vibe but it's very well crafted and unique and strong enough to earn its space on my wall (that's a hard task). This is absolutely worth buying a sample of. This African elephant "tusk" name is prob appropriate as well lol."
Basenotes - "A herbal opening blast with myrrh, labdanum and an animallic undertone of castoreum and civet. A rich interesting and unusual start, and quite captivating. There is an element of old leather present and in the drydown a rich and deep olibanum is added that combines a nigh citrus-like brightness with a deep and complex raisinous undertone. Beautifully balancing the animalic with the frnakincense, the dark with the fresh and crisp. A delicious mix."
Fragrantica - "it's really excellent, not boring, and is the animalic dream you might have hoped for. The first hour it has a distinct Enigma vibe with an almost coca-cola feeling. It's like if Enigma decided to go a very animalic direction. You have to like animalics to like this though, so if you don't, skip it. This one isn't bluffing."
Fragrantica - "Castoreum/civet, leather and oud. Definitely animalic (in a dark way- not skanky or offensive). Loud! A beast! I tried my sample before work and now I regret it. Everyone is gonna smell me here.
If you are into those descriptors (and some of you know you are)- try it!"
