Pacifica is the creation of Brook Harvey Taylor and Billy Taylor. Brook's fascination with scents began when she was a teen and read Tom Robbins' novel Jitterbug Perfume. She began mixing her own fragrances from essential oils she bought at a local food co-op where her mother worked. In her college years she studied aromatherapy with an aromatherapist who taught her all about natural fragrances. She then met Billy and they created Pacifica. Their first big break came when they took seven of Brook's scents and turned them into candles and tested their new product at a trade show. The candles sold well instantly and soon became the foundation that the Pacifica brand would be built on. They did not do a lot of marketing, instead choosing good old-fashioned word-of-mouth.
As a brand founded by surfers they were in partnership with Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society and 1% of their sales from the Island Vanilla range is donated to the Society. They are also committed to the environment and they work at reducing their impact on the environment. They recycle and use post-consumer materials. They use local suppliers that share their vision and their goal is to have zero product manufacturing waste in their factory. Pacifica also sponsors young women surfers as Environmental Ambassadors who travel the world and carry a message about playing a role in cleaning of our oceans. They also support local charities and donate products to local women's shelters.
Their line includes unique, happy, fun and easy to wear fragrances (24 currently—Tunisian Jasmine was discontinued), candles and skin care. The fragrances are all 100% vegan and gluten free and are eau de parfums. In addition, they also have solid perfumes. Each fragrance can be worn alone or layered to create a new scent.
