Description

In 1934 William Schultz introduced a line of soaps, toiletries and perfume oils he called Old Spice. Although the original Old Spice was for women, a men's version was also introduced. It featured top notes of orange, sage and lemon; middle notes of carnation, geranium, cinnamon, jasmine and heliotrope; and base notes of vanilla, cedarwood, frankincense, tonka and musk.

Mr. Schultz formed Shulton to market his products and Old Spice became one of the first successful men's fragrances in the late 1930s. Shulton sold Old Spice to American Cyanamid in 1970, which in turn sold it to Procter & Gamble in 1990. When it was purchased by Proctor & Gamble in 1990, changes were made. The fragrance was reformulated and the sailing ships on the packaging were replaced with a yachting logo. In early 2008 the original Old Spice scent was repackaged as “Classic” and the glass bottle was replaced with plastic.

Old Spice won a FiFi Fragrance Hall of Fame Award in 1991.

It has gone through many reformulations and this is the scent that is currently available for sale - Old Spice Classic.
