Sophia was launched in 1981 and was inspired by Sophia Loren, a famous actress and an icon of style and elegance. It was an oriental floral scent with dominant notes of jasmine and rose and was the first real celebrity perfume. Sophia Loren was so popular in the United States that Coty wanted to create a fragrance after her.
That sex appeal of Sophia is always on the surface but done in a classy manner and the wording of the print ad makes us think that sex appeal is OK and that maybe only small minded spinsters don’t agree. Since the fragrance was aimed at a little bit older crowd (as Sophia was 47 at the time) maybe it was meant to say that if you wear Sophia, you will feel younger.
Sophia won a 1981 FiFi Award for Women's Fragrance of the Year - Broad Appeal (Popular Appeal).
Sophia has been discontinued.
This is the original cologne concentrate version of the fragrance.
