Dior Jules is a powerhouse men's 1980s fragrance created by Jean Martel. It was inspired by a man who was all charm, he had game, he was a fantasy. Jules is the guy who always does what he wants. Jules in French means seducer/lover.
It is a chypre fragrance that actually starts out as a fougere with lavender, florals and tonka but then turns into a leather chypre. Notes of artemisia, lavender, cumin, bergamot, jasmine, cyclamen, cedar, basil, rose, sandalwood, leather, tonka, oakmoss, amber, suede and musk.
It was just relaunched this year to Russia only.
This is the original eau de toilette version of the fragrance.
From Yesterday's Perfume - "Jules’ embarrassment of riches is for you to discover, slowly and quietly — but rapturously. The reined-in animalic base is civilized, but it is still recognizably animalic: leather and civet (?) hover over its freshly washed fougère herbaceous opening gambit. In Jules, Dionysian eros is balanced with Appollonian coolness. As one reviewer on Basenotes, dragonblizzard said, 'It is a fine balance of the primal and philosophical…'"
From Basenotes - "Stunning green, green start. As has been said before a dreamlike, smooth, seamless transition to the Leather. This,is Masculine Leather of yesteryear, reminiscent of the Bel Ami Vintage and the like. None of the contemporary saccharine muck or the brashness of burnt whatever, or lipstick nonsense.
Extraordinary in that it doesn't soften or fade on my skin. It maintains the note and and again seamlessly moves away. A Masculine 'I want to smell like that'"
From The Black Narcissus - "There is a blooded, bodily, leg-haired, at-ease-with-himself aura that surrounds Jules. Interestingly, the perfume was created by Jean Martel, whose only other creation seems to have been Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, another easy-going, indefatigable classic that I wear myself sometimes as I love its warmth and aromatic balminess. While I don’t often go for ‘pour homme’ type scents these days, there is something special, real, lovable, about Paco Rabanne, as there is about Jules, a scent that doesn’t feel that it needs to brag."
