A surprising fragrance
I was expecting more lavender than incense, but surprisingly, upon application, it immediately turnes into incense! Very amazing but in a way i dont like. It can be a very interesting fragrance to study though.
Serge Lutens Encens et Lavande was created by Christopher Sheldrake. It is the granddaddy of all lavender scents, created with the artistic eye of Serge Lutens. Cinder and flowers - incense and lavender flower - the rich incense-infused lavender is cooling, meditative, drawing you in. Don't let the blast of lavender scare you at the open to think it's just a blast of lavender sachet. It takes a little time for the incense to come out, but it's so worth the wait. Encens et Lavande is in the Oriental Fougere fragrance group.
from - colognoisseur - "Serge Lutens Encens et Lavande was released in 1996 composed by perfumer Christopher Sheldrake. Opening on a rosemary and juniperberry top accord it is the heart where the name comes to life. Lavender is buttressed by clary sage and an austere silvery frankincense. They provide a chilly effect that carries an icy beauty. A healthy amount of amber thaws things out. Incense and lavender go together like peas and carrots."
from - perfumesmellinthings - "This is saddening, because I prefer this to it's counterpart in the export line, Gris Clair. E et L reverses GC's dance from light to dark: It starts off with the incense and gradually adds in the lavender with just a touch of the camphor that is amped up in the opening of GC. The icy lavender here isn't as forceful as the opening in GC; compared to Encens et Lavande Gris Clair seems somewhat shrill. The drydown marries the disparate elements to a smooth amber base, the whole in my mind making me think of the dark, cool interior of a perhaps abandoned stone church. Could there be anything more perfect on a scorching day?"

I love the way this smells, and the way it changes throughout the day. Big hit of lavender at the beginning, and then it transitions to almost a cedar/piney earthy scent. Great for fall and winter.

I grow lavender in my garden and I have used Yardley's Lavender since it was packaged in a 6 ounce splash bottle. Encens et Lavande is closer to the lavender plant in odor. I don't detect incense in the scent but I think it acts to enhance the fresh, sparkling green character of the fragrance. Sillage is good and persists for at least ten hours. A full bottle is in my near future.
What's not to love? Lavender & Incense combined in a heavenly fragrance. Unisex, with the lavender note starting out quite harsh upon first spritz, then mellowing into a wonderful scent. Would smell great on a gentleman too since this is not a girly girl or even a sweet fragrance. Warning: You must love lavender to pull this one off!
