Description

Serge Lutens Rose de Nuit is a very animalic, smoldering, dark rose fragrance. This is a rose that belongs in the night, slightly hidden, thornier, while it seduces you through its drydown into something that promises much more.  "Dirty, dirty rose, my favorite kind." Rose de Nuit is in the Oriental Floral fragrance group.

Reviews of Serge Lutens Rose de Nuit from noses that may or may not sniff the same as your nose does.

from thenonblonde - "Serge Lutens' Rose de Nuit is a true creature of the night. It's what his Sa Majeste La Rose is trying to be but is too sunny and lively to achieve. Both have an animalic musk element, but in Rose de Nuit it almost gets out of control. It's also somehow sweeter, more tempting and unlike Sa Majeste, never turns sour (on me). Rose de Nuit is also wickedly dark- not exactly your average romantic Valentine's Day rosy perfume and definitely not the dewy raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens you'd find in many a popular rose scent.

Rose de Nuit has a dirty honey note, a little bit like what you find in Miel de Bois (which might explain why some find it unpalatable. I think it's more waxy, though, and a little opaque- a heavy velvet to MdB's silk, if that makes any sense. Usually when one thinks about mysterious and mystical rose perfumes you expect them to be heavy on the incense. But Serge Lutens makes them look like high school goth-wannabes. They wear all black and Robert Smith eyeliner, while the real vampires walk among us reeking of heavy musk.

The late dry-down of Rose de Nuit is surprisingly tame and gentle. It stays close to the skin and is just a sweet musk with a hint of candied rose. Dabbing makes it a lot warmer and more intimate than spraying from a decant, something I find to be true with many Lutens perfumes."

from olfactoriastravels - "The musk in Rose de Nuit is not screechy white or skanky beast, but the intoxicating scent of sensitive, ravished skin after an amorous encounter that began early in the evening and lasted through the night. Rose de Nuit captures the sinful bloom on the skin where the blood has risen to the surface.  Serge Lutens calls it a “velvety musk” and it really is.  The rose is slightly blackened, dry and weather-beaten. It has already given up the best of itself. Its petals are suspended in warm, musky unguent with slices of apricot flesh and a smear of honeyed beeswax to help make it wearable."

    Odd development. :/

I love this rose. It is a perfect rose. Dead. Dusted. Mummified. Entombed. Enveloping. Buy why fresh peach after? The development makes no sense to my nose. Why is that peach smelling alive? Bah! *scratches head* /:

    My Favorite SL Rose

This is, by far, my preferred SL Rose. Deep, spicy, rose. Yet so difficult to get outside decants!

Try before you buy with this one

I love this fragrance and find it deep and complicated and animalic. However, I can only wear it on evenings when I have the house to myself; my work buddy thinks it's awful, and my husband claims to smell a urine note in it. This one just might be a perfumista's fragrance, with some public relations problems outside our sphere. But I will continue to keep a small precious decant around for private sniffing.

    Sexy

Scent of a delightful rose leather, very wearable and sexy. It is an elegant rose scent, which S M LR by Lutens too. SMLR is a granny rose scent, pure juice rose, remembering rose water to tonifing the face, or Tea Rose perfume, rose-rose-rose, boring, old and intoxicating. Nothing to do with this perfume wearable, sexy and beautiful.
