Description

Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle There's no good way to introduce this beloved Serge scent except to just say it - this is the weirdest experience of perfume you will ever have.  From the blast of camphor at the open (you may make a face like "the Scream" when you sniff it", when you are thinking at any moment you will choke, much less figure out where the tuberose is hiding, to the moment about an hour in you will be walking through a room thinking "man, who smells so freaking amazing" and realize it is you), this is just an experience you have to take. You may wind up hating it or loving it, but you won't be indifferent to it. It took me a few tries and some years to develop the deep love I have for this scent, but it is there, and I don' stop at dabbing it, I spray the darn thing on, throwing caution and self-respect to the wind and head out to the grocery store trailing ethereal tuberose sillage through the cereal aisle like Gloria Swanson in the Final Phase Crazy Days.  Tubereuse Criminelle is in the Floral fragrance group.

This isn't just perfume, Tubureuse Criminelle is entertainment.

Reviews of Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle from noses that may or may not sniff like your nose.

Reading the reviews on it is entertainment too.

From Tom at Perfume Smellin' things/Perfume Posse "It has an opening that almost defies you to loathe it; a strange, almost sickly mentholated, smokey, leathery accord that also has whiffs of something very much like gasoline. (While writing this and re-reading it I realise that the only way I could make this read less appetizing or pleasant is if I wrote that it smelled of road kill and fruit loops).

and

"This is tuberose in bondage. If Fracas would be the scent that Joan Crawford would dab on before plugging Sydney Greenstreet, Tubereuse Criminelle would be what Uma Thurman would dab before opening a heaping helping can of whoop-ass on David Carradine."

My comment in a "Genius and Evil Genius" post we did on Perfume Posse - "A mix of camphor and
tuberose, it assaults the nose, calling to mind the the sound of hoofbeats as the Four Horsemen pull up to your house to let you know the End 'O the World as you Knew It has come, and there will be no more just sweet flowery perfumes on their own, they will be combined with "other things." like rubber mentholatum steeped in turpentine."

and

"If you have your whip tucked in the belt of your leather jumpsuit and are ready to teeter over to the local Spank Me Hard Bar and Grill on your Jimmy Choos with the 4-inch heels, you'll need this to ward off overzealous beaus, The Undead or Parliament." Perfume Posse list of Bad Girl Perfumes

Amazing - on a par with my beloved Carnal Flower

A must for anyone who likes a big, bold tuberose. Not for the faint hearted. The opening is sharp - almost unpleasant with a earthy, medicinal qualities - but it dries down into a wonderfully warm, addictive floral. Spray it with care - not only because of its sillage but also because it is now discontinued and expensive to buy. Hence I was very pleased to have the opportunity to buy a more affordable sample of this - thanks so much once again STC.

    Magnificent

If this perfume were a woman, she would be of great intelligence and learning, not easily swayed by the rosy amorous pleas of her suitor. Her replies would be cold, camphorous whiplashes concealing but a trace of feminine vulnerability....with time, as her lover gains her trust, her words softens, her gaze sparkles, as the sharp edges of her desire morph into a warm, curvaceous, narcotic blossom heaving with sensuality. She is ready. But be careful, for if handled with recklessness, her wit will sting...

    Not Quite

I read a lot of reviews before sampling this. I have purchased very large samples now three times. Yes, there's the salicylate blast, the menthol, etc. So I'm fine with that and the wait. I don't mind smelling like Vicks vapo rub for a few minutes. But here's why despite its fame, its devotes, its rave reviews I will not go all the way to FB. It completely dies on me within one hour. I don't get that sexy tuberose white flower dry down. I get Vicks. Then nothing. I don't know if the initial burst blasts my nose or what. But for now, I'll have to settle for Une Voix Noire SL for my white flower fix or Fracas. I still have a lot left in my sample so I will keep searching for this tuberose....

    Stick around, it gets better

At first application, you feel as if you just applied gasoline to your wrist, but it dies down quickly. Into the nicest sweet tuberosy fragrance you can smell this side of heaven. Yes, it is criminal that this first sniff is so hard and cold, but stick around for the real show which is unforgettable. I truly love, love, love this fragrance.

    Almost, as real tuberose flower

After an initial sharp blast of menthol (which not to be scared of, and which does not last that long) a true beauty emerges: a pretty flower, that can be taking everywhere to be admired and to receive a lot of compliments. I find this perfume to be very true to the real tuberose absolute.

    Fresh Floral

I read other reviews of this fragrance before buying a sample. I was intrigued by all the strong opinions expressed about this scent. Guess my sniffer isn't as sensitive? All I smell is a fresh cut tuberose. Reminds me of going to the farmer's market and picking up a bunch. It's fine, nothing outrageous.

    Nice, but....

Unfortunately for this fragrance, I smelled Carnal Flower first. This is a good tuberose, but Carnal Flower is a great tuberose! The quality of Carnal Flower is unfair to this scent...but in favor of this fragrance, if you want a warm/dirty tuberose fragrance, this would be a nice one for you. It's worth keeping a sample of this around to sniff every now and then.

    A reference tuberose

This is a fabulous fragrance and a fitting tribute to a strange, nocturnal and very raunchy flower. Serge loves this flower and has magnified all of it's aspects. Contrary to opinion, I didn't find the opening unpleasant-just demanding of patience. It's a cool blast laden with what I am presuming are; wintergreen type notes(maybe salicylates?) camphor and indoles too. If you were to press your nose to any white bloom then this is what you would experience. People who are willing to wait, will experience one of the most beautiful, lush white bouquets ever and a very sexy drydown too. Well worth it!

    audacious

The menthol is rubbed with chest constipated children is the top note of tuberose and sparkling bolder. A fragrance that is a masterpiece, a magnificent evolution, original, fresh, wearable, and while risky.
