Description

Sorcellerie English Major is an Extrait de Parfum and is everything Library.  It is a nice cozy blanket in a comfy chair with your favorite book in the depth of autumn!!  Notes of library books, orris absolute, marshmallow, decalepis hamiltonil absolute*, carrot seed, sandalwood and fallen leaves.

The perfumer notes for Sorcellerie English Major Extrait de parfum -

"Designed to evoke the smell of being surrounded by library books, fallen leaves in autumn, and the romantic spirit of someone who can think of nothing better to do with a cold afternoon than to immerse themselves in a good book, this is an earthy gourmand centered on marshmallow, orris, and the unmistakeable scent of library books. It's cozy and warm, and paper-y and soft, and it uses some truly special materials - an orris absolute with 80% irones, and decalepis hamiltonii absolute, which smells simultaneously earthy and like a rich vanilla extract. ."
Reviews of Sorcellerie English Major

Fragrantica - "My all-time favorite perfume ever. This is literally the coziest perfume you can own. Reminds me of my childhood, going to the library and tucked into the corner at a table while reading books but at the same time having a cup of tea and s’mores in front of a fireplace at the same time. Definitely a fall time fragrance or wearable during cloudy or rainy weather but I wear it all the time lol."

Fragrantica - "Really lovely vanilla iris with just enough library to make it interesting. The powdery sweetness reminds me of marshmallows. It simple but smells good quality and lasts for 8+ hours, wears close. It’s very nice to wear to bed or on rainy days, times you’d usually read a book. Similar to Warm Bulb by Clue in concept but more wearable imo. I’ve been chasing a scent like this for a while, sampled and bought many but this is my favorite thus far. Keeping it simple was a good call."

Reddit: "These are not old antique books, but new and soft--almost powdery--paper. Surrounding this is a halo of sweet, slightly earthy, marshmallows and warmth. To be honest I did not get the impression of fallen leaves at all through it's wear, but maybe I am thinking of it too literally. The smell of paper/books is most prominent in the beginning, but as this wears it becomes sweeter and sweeter until it settles to a sugary, slightly powdery, marshmallow--but the really good home-made kind! And the projection got stronger as it dried too, the sweetness actually started to give me a small headache. Sadly the paper/book note pretty much disappear into the gourmand marshmallow. But I do appreciate that it doesn't fade to plain vanilla, as most things like this do on me. It truly is a cozy warm marshmallow! And although it does smell lovely, it is personally not for me. I would have preferred a stronger focus on the books, but this is very creative and I think a lot of people will love it! Longevity: A powerhouse. After the first night I tried this I could still smell it on my skin in the morning. My SKIN, not just my clothes. That's impressive. Someone standing next to me could smell it, but you're not knocking people over across the room. Overall: Cozy! Reading a book in the corner of the library while eating rich marshmallows dusted in powdered sugar--the marshmallows were so good you had to put the book down."

Reddit:  "I’m obsessed. It is definitely a marshmallow bomb, but I’m absolutely okay with that. I recently discovered I’m a freak for orris, and the orris in this one is so good! It’s definitely lighter on the bookish/academia vibe I thought it would give, but it’s a 10/10 winner for me even so."

Parfumo: "Sweet marshmallows over dusty book pages with a creamy touch and of subtle woodiness. Much sweeter than I would’ve thought but in such a creamy, cocooning, and cozy library esque way. The orris is the star, it’s rich, smooth, earthy, and sweet with a sandalwood base. Don’t get much carrot which would’ve been a lovely treat if I did, but this is such a charming bookish scent!"

Parfumo:  "If you’ve never encountered an atmospheric scent in a literal sense, this is a great one to start with. Even with my background and as lover of the sciences, English Major instantly transports me back to my collegiate days stuck in the library, face glued to textbooks and other forms of print, studying my ass off so I can finish school. EM starts off with someone slapping you in the face with an old, worn out library book, and then subsequently, shoving some kind of steamed hot drink in your face. The paper scent can definitely be off putting for those not used to atmospherics, but the sharpness of the paper doesn’t dominate for too long before it’s softened by the marshmallow and iris. Besides the added woodiness I get from the sandalwood, I do not pick up on the carrot seeds or other notes. It’s sweet, it’s creamy, and it is just ever so slightly woody/papery as it continues to dry down. EM falls in the same category as Whispers in the Library and Library PERFUME and other kinds of scents that not only provide you with olfactive nostalgia, but give you that “experience in a bottle”. While it’s not necessarily an original concept for a fragrance, English Major’s novelty lies in the fact that it smells nothing like the others. The paper note is very authentic, and it is indeed very wearable. It’s been great for the fall and winter, and I think Caitlyn did an excellent job on this one."

Parfumo: "English Major is my favorite perfume from Sorcellerie Apothecary. It's sweet and it definitely smells like a refined student majoring in English! This student is wealthy, well read, and dressed in the finest natural fibers. The library book note smells like brand new books. I then mostly get the creaminess of the orris absolute and sandalwood & the sweetness of the marshmallow and decalepis hamiltonii. If I had to use other perfumes to relate this perfume to, it has the sweetness level of Kilian's Love, Don't be Shy and the creaminess of Lush's American Cream."
