Xyrena is a compound of two terms - XY (the male and female chromosomes) and RENA (from the Latin word renascor which means "to be renewed or reborn). It also means “enchanter” in Old Greek. The company is certified 100% vegan and cruelty-free. They refer to themselves as olfactory rebels and welcome their customers to the "future of fragrance".
From Xyrena's website: Inspired by the most controversial Christmas film of all time. Upon its 1984 release, this cult classic ignited outrage, sparking protests, public outcry, and its removal from theaters due to the lead character being a psychotic, slasher Santa. Now, in celebration of its 40th anniversary, this fragrance embodies the film’s dark, edgy spirit—a twisted holiday staple that spawned four sequels, a remake, and a newly announced reboot. Like the duality of the film’s handsome but disturbed protagonist, Billy Chapman, Silent Night, Deadly Night contrasts sweet and sexy notes with dark and spicy undertones. The fragrance opens with a festive burst of peppermint candy cane, as sharp as the edge of Billy’s axe; simmered spiced oranges, evoking the warmth of small-town holiday cheer; and the dark aromatic allure of star anise. At its heart, a boozy splash of Mr. Sims & Mrs. Randall’s apple brandy conjures a scene of holiday debauchery, while cinnamon adds a fiery touch that nods to Billy’s rage. A delicate floral note of amaryllis, blooming like forgotten innocence during a steamy dream of Pamela, briefly softens the darkness. The dry-down reveals a decadent base of vanilla eggnog, spiked with nutmeg and cardamom, bringing a sinister comfort to the chaos. Finally, the warmth of Billy’s velour Santa suit wraps everything together like a bow on a present straight from Ira’s Toys, capturing both the joy and menace of the season.
