Amouage Outlands was released in 2024. Created by Cecile Zarokian and has been earning rave reviews since it released, along with some hate. A complicated incense and wood fragrance with notes of frankincense, cardamom, elemi, lemon, bergamot, Sichuan pepper, patchouli, coriander, anise, cumin, wormwood, orange blossom, saffron, geranium, rose, vanilla, benzoin, amber, oud, opoponax, birch, ambergris, maltol, labdanum and musk.
From Amouage - "The edge of imagination. Uncharted mysteries. A dance with the unknown. Outlands is an invitation to journey into the beyond. The opening note of the composition is unexpectedly light-hearted: an invigorating array of bright citruses, emphasised by zesty lemon. However, as the voyage continues, the landscape becomes more remote and more extraordinary. A rich, multi-faceted patchouli – projecting heat, humidity and verdancy in equal measure – compels the intrepid traveller to move deeper into the cryptic landscape. Finally, an amber accord – reverberating with the potency of balsams and resins – entices a progression to the ultimate encounter, where we find ourselves reflected and remade. As indescribable as it is familiar, Outlands makes use of extraordinary contrasts between light and shade to capture the ever-shifting inevitability of the future."
Fragrantica - "This is a masterpiece, revolutionizing the complex note of frankincense. Opening as a fresh, spicy cocktail that energizes your spirit, rolling out the red carpet for the star in this composition, frankincense. Far from the classic smell, one would expect in a cathedral, Amouage adorns it with warm notes of amber, pepper and orange flower, making it smooth and well-balanced. What really captivates my senses is the fact, that the scent keeps evolving and changing. With every sniff the color shifts, making it an olfactory journey, lasting for many hours. The composition is comforting and feels luxurious, well-suited for a classy night out and believe me, you will get loads of compliments. I was approached numerous times, as the sillage is strong and the scent will stick to ones memory with its on of a kind composition. Outlands is a unique blend and has its own magic like no other perfume I know of."
Fragrantica - "Just stunning! Now my signature fragrance- countless compliments every single time I wear it. Far and above the best in my 300 plus collection."
Fragrantica - "I wore Outlands to a holiday dinner party and after numerous compliments someone came up to me and said “excuse me, could you share the name of the perfume you are wearing? It’s just gorgeous, I must know.” While I don't wear perfumes for compliments, I thought it was important to highlight how incredible the sillage on this is. Not only does this envelope you in a gorgeous scent bubble, but the trail this leaves will leave others equally impressed."
Fragrantica - "Wore this to Freindsgiving last night...I think I was stopped by at least 10 people "OMG you smell SO good what are you wearing?!" The hype is real, folks. This juice rocks!"
Fragrantica - "Like many Amouage creations, this one is multilayered, sophisticated, and full-bodied, yet never chaotic. Each note moves with purpose. Across several wearings, different facets came forward, but what I consistently perceive is a dance around cardamom, lemony elemi resin, patchouli, and smoky vanilla. These seem to be the pillars holding the whole structure together. As it dries down, the sweetness recedes, giving way to something more woody and balsamic, still carrying a trace of warmth. There’s also a faintly human, skin-like nuance: likely cumin or coriander; both notes she tends to favor in her work. Overall, a beautiful composition."
Fragrantica - "It is deep, rich, lush, mysterious, complicated, powerful, transcendent, enduring, timeless, masterful, toe-curling, rapturous, enigmatic, astonishing, carefree, elevating, dreamy, galactic symphony. The real genius here is that this is wearable at all. Something this good should be in a museum or locked in a bankvault for normal people to dream of, covet and wonder at. The likes of me, a nobody in the scheme of things, an ugly universal insignificance, being able to obtain this, let alone wear it, let alone actually make it work.... borders on incongruous. It stretches the bounds of credibility. I shouldn't be able to walk down the street and have people turn their heads in my slipstream and wonder why and how I smell like this."
Fragrantica - "This is a phenomenal scent. If you find this too complex or too challenging, niche perfume just isn’t for you (btw many years ago I’m sure this would have been challenging for me). This is a syrupy, spiced, mass appealing amber with a Layton like backbone, but it is certainly not identical to Layton. It’s a very high oil concentration and this lingers for many hours. Projection is very strong for the first two hours and then it settles down to a medium/strong projected for the remainder of its life. This is a beautiful creation. The hype is certainly justified."
