Description

Old Grimoire was a limited edition fragrance from the Halloween Collection and is no longer available on their website. It is a dark academia scent with gourmand elements. It is the scent of an ancient book of spells, curses and incantations and features notes of well-worn pages yellowed by time, sweet vanilla, cypriol, caramel, salty ambergris and nagarmotha. Old Grimoire is an eau de parfum, edp.

All Arcana Wildcraft fragrances are indie, handmade, vegan, cruelty free, and free from phthalates, parabens, sulfates, endocrine disruptors, preservatives and silicones.

ARCANA WILDCRAFT OLD GRIMOIRE REVIEWS

Reddit: "My impression: it is, indeed, a dark academia scent with gourmand elements. It smells like a book with this clear but not overwhelming gourmand element. Like Enchanted Ink, I've never smelled anything like it. I don't usually go for book or library scents, so it's not in my usual comfort zone, but it's so interesting how clearly it balances the gourmand and book elements. During the dry down they became more harmonized. It was slightly more pungent at the beginning but smoother as it dried. I really am blown away by the creativity. A lot of times when I read reviews about unique perfumes they end up being kind of normal to me (like I don't think Sea of Grey by solstice scents is that difficult, it's just a vanilla with some aquatics to me) and I certainly wouldn't call this a challenging scent by any means but the uniqueness of this and enchanted Ink really captivate me."

Reddit: "Definitely musty, dusty and smoky with some other gourmand element lingering in the backdrop… Very atmospheric! On skin, that mystery element reveals itself to be something of a caramel and slight black cherry accord to my nose. Man I really like Arcana’s caramel. This definitely feels like the more gothic version of Cauldron Caramel. I must say, I’m typically not a fan of atmospherics being intruded upon by sweet elements, but here it proves very nice and well balanced. The ancient, smoky book accord itself is very well polished. It definitely reminds me of enjoying a nice warm cup of caramel tea while perusing the archives of an ancient library! Possibly in the desert, close by to the sea or both. Easy 7.5-8/10. I know all these scores have been great so far but I swear I’m really quite the critic!! Let’s see how the rest of the cast holds up. Also I believe cypriol and nagarmotha are the same thing but they’re both listed there separately."

Reddit: "Actually pretty accurate to old, as in very old, books. 100+ year old books. The leather is dry and crumbling, the pages are brittle, there's a dusty funk from a century of use. It does go through a weird, yet dead-on accurate, black pepper phase. It's also fairly quiet currently. I went and snuffled some of my oldest books to compare and it's definitely close, very evocative if nothing else. I was worried about the caramel but it's not a sweet scent in the gourmand sense currently. Hopefully it stays that way! FS will be contemplated after I wear it more."
