Looking for a Coffee Perfume? The Best Coffee Fragrances to Try
29th Oct 2026
Looking for the best coffee perfume? Coffee can smell like a freshly pulled espresso, an iced latte, a Turkish coffee thick with cardamom, or a mocha melting into rum and chocolate. It's a hard note to get right, and on many skins the coffee shows up loud in the opening and then fades into vanilla, rose or woods. Even so, there are some truly great coffee fragrances out there, plus a few that people just can't stop talking about.
We researched your recommendations all over the internet to see which coffee perfumes people actually recommend. Then we sorted the ones we carry by budget and style. Browse the current coffee lineup at Surrender to Chance here.
Budget Coffee Perfumes
- Al Rehab French Coffee: Coffee, chocolate, milk, vanilla and musk in an inexpensive oil. Café au lait with extra sugar. One r/FemFragLab commenter summed it up as "literally a cup of coffee, fades into a spicy vanilla."
- Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Café: Coffee and green almond over benzoin, vanilla absolute, cedar and white musk. Heavier on the vanilla than the coffee, like the smell of a café counter.
- Demeter Fresh Brewed Coffee: A single-note coffee cologne. Just coffee, light and simple, with that first-cup-of-the-day feeling.
- Sabrina Carpenter Sweet Tooth Me Espresso: Espresso bean, night-blooming jasmine and cocoa powder, then almond biscuit, cream and vanilla orchid over caramel, bourbon vanilla and amber. A sweet, dessert-style espresso. On some skins the jasmine takes the lead.
Designer Coffee Fragrances
- Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium: Coffee and jasmine with orange blossom and pink pepper, on vanilla, patchouli and cedar. The coffee-and-white-flowers combination in its most familiar form. Want cherry with it? Black Opium Over Red adds cherry and green mandarin up top with coffee in the base.
- Dolce & Gabbana Devotion Pour Homme: Just three listed notes: Italian lemon, coffee and patchouli. Bright up front, then the coffee comes through. A Basenotes member found "a great coffee note that's not sweet at all."
- Hermès Terre d'Hermès Eau de Parfum Intense: Christine Nagel's 2025 take on Terre: bergamot and black pepper, then liquorice and coffee over woody notes and lava rock. Earthy, mineral, smoky coffee. Nothing like a dessert.
- Maison Margiela Replica Coffee Break: Coffee, red apple and lemon with lavender, orange blossom and spearmint, then milk, cedar and sandalwood. A soft, milky coffee to wear on a Sunday morning. Lavender-sensitive noses take note: some people get more lavender than coffee.
Indie Coffee Perfumes
- Olympic Orchids Café V: Espresso, cocoa, cardamom, masala chai, leather, cream and vanilla. One r/fragrance fan called it "Coffee dominant with complimentary accords of leather, whipped cream, and cardamom."
- Sorce 2 AM in Lafayette: Milk coffee, caramel, beignet, vanilla CO2, powdered sugar and a little oakmoss. Café du Monde at 2 AM. On r/Indiemakeupandmore one wearer said "2am is just strong coffee with some caramel syrup to me."
- Haus of Gloi Coffee Haus: The Haus coffee accord. Freshly brewed coffee with hints of chocolate, caramel and almond, plus real coffee bean CO2 extract. A deep, roasty bag-of-beans coffee.
- Poesie Whisper Your Bitter Things: Pressed coffee beans, clove bud, cassia bark, jasmine, bitter orange blossom and roasted vanilla pods. For coffee lovers who hate sugar. An r/Indiemakeupandmore reviewer: "This is pure, bitter, coffee." (We carry the water-based mist.)
- Strangers Parfumerie Roasted Coffee Cigarette Whisky Come and Get Your Suede Honey Baby: The name says most of it: coffee, tobacco, whisky, brandy, suede and honey, plus popcorn, hay and vanilla. Loud and a little wild, and an r/FemFragLab commenter called it "strong and incredibly realistic."
Niche Coffee Fragrances
- Akro Awake: The most-recommended coffee perfume across the forums we read. Brazilian coffee and lemon, green cardamom, then vetiver. Created by Olivier Cresp. It's a real jolt of roasted coffee that stays coffee as it softens. On r/FemFragLab: "Akro Awake is the most realistic freshly pulled shot of espresso I have ever smelled."
- d'Annam Vietnamese Coffee: Roasted coffee with sweetened condensed milk, dark chocolate and a breath of lily of the valley, over cedar, tonka and amber. One r/FemFragLab commenter called it "the ultimate iced coffee perfume." Expect the floral to show up as it dries down.
- Brown Girl Jane Casino: Affogato with jasmine, red orchid and red rose over rum cake, almond and blond woods. Espresso poured over gelato with a splash of rum.
- Mancera Amore Caffè: Coffee and amaretto, vanilla ice cream, speculoos cookies and brown sugar. An affogato with a caramel drizzle.
- Montale Ristretto Intense Café: Coffee and rose water, rose and coffee bean, then amber, toffee, vanilla and white musk. An r/fragrance commenter said the opening is "DEAD ON freshly ground coffee beans." Its sibling Montale Intense Café leans further into the rose.
- Atelier Cologne Café Tuberosa: Espresso, tuberose and Damask rose, with cardamom, bergamot and mandarin up top and bourbon vanilla, cocoa and patchouli below. Who knew tuberose and coffee belonged together? One r/fragrance fan described it as that "in a cafe, barista just freshly ground some beans to make your espresso to order" smell.
- Jil Sander Coffea: Coffee CO2 with orris root, Peru balsam and aldehydes. The iris-and-coffee pairing: powdery, elegant and quietly strange.
Luxury Coffee Perfumes
- Kilian Intoxicated: Mocha with green cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel and vanilla. Spiced coffee from a brass pot.
- Kilian Black Phantom "Memento Mori": Coffee and Caribbean rum with cane sugar, a "cyanide" accord, sandalwood and Java vetiver. Dark, boozy and dangerously sweet.
- Xerjoff Golden Dallah: Coffee absolute with exotic spices, frankincense, rose, amber and Cambodian oud, then cocoa and tonka. Named for the dallah, the traditional Arabic coffee pot. Opulent.
- Tom Ford Café Rose: A rose perfume first, with coffee and incense behind it. A Basenotes member called it "very nice perfume but light on the coffee, maybe a decaf". It's perfect if you want coffee as a whisper.

Coffee Perfume FAQ
What perfume smells like coffee?
In the community threads we reviewed, the coffee perfume people named most often was Akro Awake, a realistic roasted coffee with cardamom and vetiver and Kerosene Followed (we are adding this to the store soon, so check back soon!). For a sweeter, milky coffee, people most often suggested d'Annam Vietnamese Coffee and Mancera Amore Caffè. For a straight-up bitter coffee, try Poesie Whisper Your Bitter Things.
How do perfumers make a coffee scent?
Coffee notes come from roasted coffee beans, either as a solvent-extracted coffee absolute or as a supercritical CO2 extract. Perfumers can also build a coffee accord from aroma chemicals such as 2-furfurylthiol, pyrazines and furanones. Some perfumes list the CO2 extract by name: Jil Sander Coffea lists coffee CO2, and Haus of Gloi Coffee Haus says it uses real coffee bean CO2 extract.
What notes go well with coffee in perfume?
Vanilla, tonka bean, caramel, cacao and hazelnut for gourmands. Cardamom and cinnamon for spiced coffee. Rum, tobacco, leather, patchouli, oud and frankincense for darker scents. Rose, tuberose and jasmine for floral coffee. Iris for a powdery, elegant twist.
Why does the coffee fade in some coffee perfumes?
Many wearers find the coffee is most vivid in the opening and then relaxes into the base notes. One r/fragrance poster sampling Montale Ristretto Intense Café wrote, "I only got the coffee for a few seconds.. it was all rose after that." If you want coffee that lasts, look for perfumes where coffee sits in the base or is the main theme, and always sample first.
