Kilian Hennessy celebrates ten years of redefining the art of modern perfumery by introducing the Dusk Till Dawn Collection. "Klimt is the authority when it comes to gold artwork and gold leaf, says Kilian Hennessy. The universe he created full of seduction and opulence represents a cultural reference, a touchstone – more than just decoration." Kilian states that it does not interest him to provoke just to provoke - he needs artistic reasoning. “The idea was to play on the contrasts between shadow and light, to express that we are all made of good and bad – but within light and dark there are a myriad of facets. I wanted to achieve this duality with perfume.” Each of the fragrances in this collection experiments with dualities: darkness and light, femininity and masculinity, modernity and proud tradition.
Kilian Hennessy launched by Kilian in 2007. Yup, that Cognac Hennessy, grandson to the founder of Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton Group, he followed his interest in scent, writing his thesis on the semantics of odors. After spending time with leading perfumers, he launched By Kilian with the Collection L'oeuvre Noire (Black Masterpiece) series. There are now 10 fragrances in that series. The over-the-top marketing copy drew a lot of criticism in the early part of his launch, but the gorgeous packaging - black lacquer boxes and black bottles - started to win us over, as did the artistry of the fragrances.
Fragrantica: "i know this is considered a "masculine" fragrance, but i find it to be wearable by pretty much anyone. i wear it when i want to smell rich and powerful--it evokes the idea of someone knows what they're doing, who is confident, but who is also someone that is approachable."
Fragrantica: "This perfume is refined, it's sweet but not in a cute way, it's sexy, dark and seductive. The honey is the main note here, a bit animalic, compined with an earthy but not dirty patchouli, bergamot, anise that gives a kind of fresh vibe and vanilla."
