Byredo Oud Immortel was launched in 2010, inspired by the cultural importance of oud. notes of limoncello, incense, cardamom, agarwood (oud), patchouli, papyrus, Brazilian rosewood, oak moss and tobacco. This is an EDP, eau de parfum.
From the brand: "Oud possesses a great cultural significance because of its use in traditional incense and perfumes, and it is also mentioned in one of the world's oldest written texts - the Sanskrit Vedas from India. When the once light Aquilaria tree heartwood becomes infected with a specific type of mold, it defends itself with a dark and fragrant protective resin. This now dark wood, oud or agarwood, holds a complex fragrance, resembling few or no other natural ingredients. Oud Immortel is a chypre woody fragrance that merges patchouli and papyrus so the whole composition has a smoky character. Tobacco leaf and moss contribute to the depth and complexity of oud, while rosewood and incense cause the elegant silage on skin."
Founded in 2006 in Sweden Byredo perfume's creator Ben Gorham (former basketball player) wanted to create perfumes of quality while keeping their production in Sweden. Gorham had been fascinated with fragrance much of his life. When he meet Pierre Wulff, a perfumer, Byredo came into being.
Fragrantica - "Fresh citrous oud. One of my favorites. Together with Pulp, the best Byredo fragrances. 10/10"
Fragrantica - "this is a bone-dry, light oud, lightly spiced and smoldering ever so slightly without ever straying into heavy-smoke territory. It's very woodsy- there's a trace of something pleasantly rainy in it, I think- with a light musk dry down. It layers beautifully with anything cardamom-y or sweet-powdery- I wore it layered with Poesie's Madar perfume oil all through a very damp and dreary Vermont autumn and really, really loved it. Not necessarily a safe blind buy, but I'd think that's a given with ouds."
Fragrantica - "Beautiful perfume alert! It's a deep, woody, fresh, smooth, clean masterpiece. It has a kind of intoxicating dampness to it that makes you want to roll in it like a dog. There's a hint of green mossy-ness that's quietly addictive. Leans masculine with almost churchy vibes. I'm definitely having a religious experience with this. It's an absolutely gorgeous powerhouse of a scent."
