Description

Byredo Rodeo was originally launched in the summer of 2016 but was only available at the Wooster Street store in New York City, then went back on the shelf until 2025 where it is currently a Selfridge's exclusive.  Created by Ben Gorham, it has notes of black leather, tobacco leaves, black tea, violet, vetiver, amber.  According to Ben Gorham "it is a fragrance that captures the scent of the rodeo itself. It’s the art and poetry of the rodeo, the violence, the fascination with and, the extremity of it. It’s the crackling sound of an old saddle, the singular focus of the bull rider. That moment when everything is calm, just before the rodeo starts.

Founded in 2006 in Sweden Byredo perfume's creator Ben Gorham (former basketball player) wanted to create perfumes of quality while keeping their production in Sweden. Gorham had been fascinated with fragrance much of his life. When he meet Pierre Wulff, a perfumer, Byredo came into being. Currently Gorham works with Olivia Giacobetti and Jerome Epinette to create his line of perfumes.

Byredo Rodeo 2025 Reviews

Now Smell This - "Horse lovers, and anyone who finds the scent of fine, broken-in leather particularly intoxicating, will be drawn to this unisex fragrance, which is lighter than you'd expect—more country fair nostalgic than campfire smoky."

xonjane - "Before you get visions of cowboys twirling lassos while riding horses in the wild west, picture that scenario in the style and direction of those Lincoln ads with Matthew McConaughey. Just picture Matthew McConaughey talking to bull in a luxury SUV idling on a road cutting through fields of wheat or wheat-colored grass. That's pretty much this fragrance. The scent itself is crisp and clean like the pages of a brand new leather-bound notebook, but it comes alive ever so subtly on your skin. My overall impression is staggeringly of its modernity in its starkness. Mostly, I would like to smell Matthew McConaughey in a luxury vehicle. Does he know about this scent? Because he should."

Fragrantica - "Soft, smoky, floral leather, quietly gorgeous. Wears differently and beautifully in warm and cool weather. My favorite leather fragrance."

Fragrantica - "The violet and vetiver are really homogenized into one note (at least I have trouble picking them apart and I'm a big vetiver head) and comes off as kind of a wild sour fruit which tames but doesn't disappear (thankfully) and a kinda smoky suede note that is soo genuine, I'm also really happy this one wasn't powdery (at least not in the sense of a talc, maybe more of a textural thing if fragrances can have textures) it's a linear fragrance but I never grow tired of it.. full bottle worthy imo."

Fragrantica - "Dirty, Dry Leather. Dusty Violets. Resinous Amber. Combining these was a beautiful idea and I am in love with this fragrance. Byredo has completely won me over in recent years and Rodeo is the ultimate blind buy for me. Not available in typical stores - and to my knowledge only on Byredo's website - I decided to go at it blind. I am so glad I did. I get whiffs of Hay and Leather - sweet and aromatic violets mixed in with suede and dried down with Amber. Gorgeous scent."

Fragrantica - "It constantly smells like a warm, worn, smoky leather jacket that clings nicely to my skin without being too overpowering. The violet comes and goes softly, giving an alluring, fresh take on what could be too harsh a scent for some. As it dies down, it warms up a bit more - the sales rep likened it to the violet and leather fusing together in a way, and I can definitely see that. I wish the violet was a TOUCH stronger, as violet is really one of the reasons I love this scent (as well as Mojave Ghost and a few others of the Byredo vein), but I absolutely adore this scent. It's sophisticated, sexy, and refined without being too hyper-masculine."
