Description

Byredo Slow Dance is a sensuous incense. Notes of opopanax, geranium, labdanum, violet, patchouli and vanilla.

The slow dance: A rites-of-passage moment for both girls and boys before they metamorphose into women and men. A feeling of exhilaration tempered by awkwardness, a heady collision of innocence and experience, not knowing and knowing, felt across countries, cultures and time. Slow Dance mixes ideas of the feminine and masculine, bitter and sweet, in a rich, intoxicating distillation redolent of warm skin and breathless exchange. Here (high school) clichés mingle and become something more; at once familiar and iconoclastic, the ancient perfumer’s arsenal is made modern and anew.   

Founded in 2006 in Sweden Byredo perfume's creator Ben Gorham (former basketball player) wanted to create perfumes of quality while keeping their production in Sweden. Gorham had been fascinated with fragrance much of his life. When he meet Pierre Wulff, a perfumer, Byredo came into being.

Fragrantica: "Violet, berries and florals slowly turns into a bit of vanilla, incense and cognac, which is more drier and sets a totally different tone. I love this multidimensional nature of this scent. Lovely vintage vibe throughout, and this play of sweetness and bitterness reminds me of how we all go through life. Up and down. Sometimes sweet, new beginnings, and then another tone appears, which is not necessarily bad, just different. You slowly get used to it and fall in love with it."

Fragrantica: "Slow Dance has taken the sweetness from the vanilla pod, however, it lacks the usual vanillic creaminess. Cognac and labdanum lend an almost smoky jazz club vibe, making this fragrance perfect for an evening out on the town. The violet softens the composition in the drydown, adding a soft, powdery touch. There are many different nuances in this fragrance, all of which blend seamlessly with one another."

    Lovely

    This is my first ever Byredo fragrance, and I'm much impressed by it. Top notes are Opoponax and Cognac; middle notes are Labdanum, Violet and Geranium; base notes are Vanilla, Patchouli and Incense. My nose isn't picking up the incense or any green notes. I'm smelling a lovely soft sweet, velvety fragrance. Not much patch. I'm very allergic to flowers, and this scent didn't make me sneeze or cough. There was a faint powdery note, which I believe comes from the opoponax. I found myself continually sniffing my wrist. It was very long lasting for me...over 6 hours, but not much sillage...more of a skin scent, which is what I prefer. I find Byredo's description of it being a rite of passage to be misleading. It's definitely not something a teen would wear to a prom. It's definitely an adult, sophisticated scent, which didn't remind me of any rites of passage. Fragrantica's website says it's more of a cold weather perfume, but I don't find it heavy that it can't be worn year round. IMO, this fragrance leans much more feminine. This might be FB worthy for me, but what I usually do when I find a sample I really like, I order the 5ml rollerball flacon from Surrender To Chance. That way I can easily test it behind my ears, on my shoulders, and on my décolletage to get the full effect.

    So in love with this perfume,too expensive to buy the full bottle. What a great idea these ladies had to do this adventure for everyone. And the packaging is beautiful, not my first order will be buying again.
